The bird diversity in SA is way higher than in Europe

Very true. Funny to see the differences between the UK and our country as well btw.

On my last trip to Kruger in March 2019 I ticked 153 species in a week.
And that was without stopping specifically for anything smaller than a dove.

Had amazing sightings on the farms- wattled cranes, cape vultures, bald ibis (kalkoen ibis), secretary birds, crested cranes...

This crane was my first one I have ever seen here in 55 years in the wild.
They migrate with hundreds over Germany but hardly over The Netherlands.
There is one pair that bred here (close to the place I took the pic btw)
Hoping there will be more soon. [IMG]

On the note of birds , In SA my flat is close to Mitchells Park, its like a mini zoo in morningside. A couple years back there was an issue and some of the bird cages were opened over the night and a blue crane started living somewhere very close to my apartment and i used to see it through my balcony often. Lots of non native species took refuge in the trees near us and a whole colony began of this particular species started flourishing in the park across the building. There already was ring necks living in another tree in the same park so it was amazing to see the different species just come out of nowhere. I am not really into birds and birdwatching but they are definitely a beautiful sight

There are apparently a few flocks of lovebirds in Johannesburg now, a good 1500 km from their natural habitat along the SW coast,_MMS4942.jpg they also visit our garden

Ringneck Parakeets have becomes naturalised in the U.K. and are now quite widespread.
There is a breeding colony not far from where I live

Omg this is a gorgeous bird. .

I like how in the afternoons they all flock together and take the skies what seems like aimlessly but it's almost as if they are doing an air show.

Lol this they do. I guess in a quiet neighborhood it would be troublesome. In Morningside there's so much cars travelling around their noise is completely drowned out
