I can't go bigger for the aro at this stage in my life because the next tank is an indoor assembly and I'm renting so if I move there's major problems. Will have to get an extra discus tank for now. Upgrade my 1.2m to a 1.5m and use the old one for breeding.[/QUOTE]

If your big Oscar was already terrorizing her at the time it just gets worse...
Cesar's one is in a 3.5m tank and that didnt even help ....

Think breeding cube is better idea!

Just came back from the shop, they are going to build me a cube. 60x60x60 with a HOB should be fine?

That should be perfect for a breeding tank

What filters are you guys running on the cubes? Was thinking a cascade and purigen.

@Adhil I'm paying a little bit more but I'm having it made rather. Never built one and I'm already rebuilding two model aircraft so building time is at a minimum for a tank.

I am running an aqua clear 70 with purigen and ceramic rings, cascade 350 submersible filter, sponge filter and another corner filter with floss and seachem matrix

I wouldn't recomend hob for breeding tank as ur fry gets sucked up. One or two sponges a cone u set.keep it simple

Went to check my cube out today, picking it up tomorrow as I want it to cure a bit more. I must say its much bigger than I had pictured in my mind, bigger footprint seems to be the answer, it just looks so roomy. Going to upgrade their display to a 80X80x80cm rather than a 1.5m standard dimention. That gives them 500L. Really didn't know I would like the cubes so much as I'm a long tank fan.

LOL @BoelderBeestie, my first tank build was a 40cm cube and it was the best thing ever. Easier to maintain and the look is appealing.

Hahahaha @Discusnut. Oh and cubes are easier to decorate too. You have a lot of good focal corners to use when you have a cube for a planted tank. When I first started mine, I had the tree in the centre. Now the substrate is off to corner with a stone covered and the tree in front of it.

Hahaha, damn they are sexy. Is it because the human eye likes symmetry maybe? If I knew they looked so nice all my tanks would have been cubes. Now I'm going to ruin it with that blue stuff. Picking it up today so will post pics later. Looks like I won't get out of the building game this time, making a stand over the weekend but a mate of mine is a skilled metal worker and he's going to guide and help me so it won't take too long.

I have a sponge that's already seeded, going to use the sponge from my aro pre filter and replace it with a new one. Going to take 50% of the discus tank water and 50% fresh so the fish are in the same water perimeters. I have extra piping that's exactly the same as they are used to and placing that inside at the same spot as in their original tank, a fake inlet so to say. Will get a clay pot over the weekend too and put it in to see if they like it. They spawned again on Wednesday but the eggs got nailed by one of the other fish when I was feeding. He\she didn't even eat them, just used its nose to knock them off the pipe. They eggs where red when laid and went dark by yesterday, then the bastard killed them. As far as my reading goes, eggs going dark is good.

So will do the build and keep updating as I go along, hopefully I'll have more fish than I can house soon. So many in fact that I must start using them as dither fish for my aro tank haha.
