The chlorine isn't what caused the low ph, that was caused by our soft water and nitrification and the fish should have handled that without an issue as discus can go down low and is normal here, I got a fright because normally my tanks sit at 6-6.5. What the chlorine did was burn the fish and that made them slime and go dark, I tested and all came back clear except my ph was at 5.2 and I though it was this that is causing them to slime and when I buffered a little to much all hell broke lose. I'm not at my best at 4:30am before work but I should have kept calm and do the basic treatment first, which is water change and dechlor, not grabbing a buffer. Yip, I was a poepol. Won't happen again. I have added more shells to the filter and the tank is rock solid now at 6.5, took 2 weeks to settle and get back to normal again. I totally destroyed the water chemistry in that tank with my poepolism.

The reason the other tanks was ok was that I don't do big water changes on them and I did my weekly 50% on the grow out the day before. I just siphon the feces everyday and take out little water and in this well stocked tank it takes around 5 days for the nitrates to reach 20ppm with this routine, I reset this to under 10ppm every week with a 50-60%ter and start over. Now that the stock levels have dropped the tank will be treated like the rest and will be at 10-15ppm nitrate and won't need a 50% once a week anymore.

I think we have all been there in one way or another and panicked about something when we should have not...

Yes, all adds to our experience! I've also been there, with dire consequences! The trick is to never panic, but that's not always so easy when expensive livestock is on the line! I very pleased that all is well now, your Discus are gorgeous!

After a few weeks of near heart attacks, strokes and what I think was a stress induced fever they have finally arrived. I'm the proud owner of 7 wild caught Japura green discus from Hudson. They traveled extremely well and are settling in nicely. They are feeding on Benkers, salmon/garlic/EPA mix and brine shrimp granules. So far everything is going smoothly touch wood but they are doing very well with no issues. Tank is a 300L, water parameters, TDS 40-50, temp 28c, ph 6.2-6.4.

Thank you @Marco for your great effort and going through all the stress of making this happen.

Here's some pics I took yesterday in ambient sunlight.

Thanks guys, will give them my best. They are still young at under a year, very glad about that. I can fatten them up myself now. Guessing 7-8 months old. Very baby still.

wow - that is crazy good turnaround time, I am sure that contributed to the health they are in. Not sure how well you slept while but impressive results.

We need more emojis. I find there are insufficient to convey the terror I felt at the above statement
