@f-fish We are getting there, slowly but surely.

@Adhil my wriggler from the previous spawn is still alive hahaha, tough little guy this one. I pointed the outlet of my TF-300 upwards to minimize current, seems to work ok. When your eggs go dark you know its on, can't wait to see how many hatch by you this time. I don't know if my fish ate my wrigglers because of hunger as I've been feeding very lightly with the previous spawn. I'm going to feed as normal with the next one like I've always done and see what happens.

So after they ate their 3 fry and the wrigglers from the last hatch I decided to try and raise the fry artificially. I moved the eggs yesterday morning at 10AM and have 15 that hatched and are still alive. I already had something bad happen, the heater died during the night and the temp was 25c this morning. Got everything up to temp again and they all luckily survived.

Here's the setup I have for them. I placed the pot with eggs in the tank when the eggs turned dark.

Here's the nest just after placing moving it. 10:00 yesterday.

Here's the nest at 15:00, I was getting worried about the fungus at this point.
    2.jpg

I removed the fungus and dead eggs as best I could as to not disturb the eggs as they where starting to hatch at this point, this was taken at 19:00.
You can see the tails on some.

15 hatched and made it through the night. Here they are now at 08:00. The 5 on the pot are sticking like Velcro and they don't
want to come off so leaving them for now, they rest I placed in a bowl on top of the pot.

Lets see if I can pull this off.

Its a shame about those other 3 since it was like already 9 days. But good luck with this batch and hopefully you can successfully grow them out. Really liking the step by step with pics, very interesting to see.

@WadeSmith They really disappointed me with those 3, everything was going so smoothly.

I lost two wrigglers today so 13 left, here's a compare shot of 10 hours. Taken this morning at 08:00 and later today at 18:00.
The heads and eyes are now visible. Looking OK so far.

Going to try bbs and if they won't eat will go with the egg yolk with crushed bbs in it. They are all still alive this morning as far as I could see. The fry that was on the pot are now scattered around the tank sticking to anything they can find. Their eyes are better formed now and pitch black little dots. The yolk sacs are also smaller. One thing I've learned is that mother nature really hates baby animals and wants them all dead haha.

5 made it to free swimming last night, going to start feeding BBS today. I moved them from the bowl to the main tank. They are already picking off little bugs in the water and stuff off the sponge filter. My timing is a bit out with the hatchery but should have BBS by 12:00 today. They still have tiny yolk sacs so that should last them till then.

If I do this again I'll skip the bowl, the 2 babies that I couldn't move and that stayed in the tank are bigger and doing better.

Well done boelderbeestie, nice experiment with raising them on your own. With all your pics and trials I have learnt a lot.

Me too. It was nice seeing them develop in detail. I have a much better understanding of how they go from egg to swimming now. Dokies and google can only tell you so much but after seeing it unfold before my eyes is a great experience. Even if they don't make it, it was well worth the effort. I will let my pair handle the next spawns to become better parents.

@Adriaan Chamberlain thanks man, glad you like it. It may sound stupid but comments like this really helps with confidence, I really threw myself into the deep end and I'm starting to feel it.

@BoelderBeestie , I agree with you, think if we all didn't find anyone who is as passionate as ourselves about fish keeping, scaping and experimenting we would have given up loooooong ago :D
