My pair blue turquoise spawned last night and this time my male was very much involved. As of this morning the eggs still look good and both parents are blowing the eggs. My female always spawns as soon as I do a water change dropping temperature to 28 or 29 degc. Hope they can get to wriggler stage this time

Great news. Mine laid eggs on Friday, there's still some left today and they have dark dots on them. Only about 10 survivors from the whole spawn. I looks like the male had one successful squirt as all the survivors are in line with one another. The rest turned yellow and then white with fungus. They are getting closer. What color is your eggs? Mine is always red. It also seems that the fungus doesn't bother the fertile eggs as it stays on the white ones.

I hope so too. I've gotten mine to keep the eggs by just doing a quick clean and topping up with the same temp water, about 5-10L only. If I do bigger they eat and respawn. I'll even be happy if they hatch the ones that's left, as it's good for me to practice upkeep with fry in the tank and to see if I can keep them healthy and without parasites. I also have to learn how to feed them and will probably stunt them with my first try. I'd rather kill 5 or 10 than 30.

@Adhil Have you ever had a successful spawn with discus?

@WadeSmith they survived for 3 days and then they ate them......again. They ended up dead anyway and the fungus took over so I'm waiting for the next one. They started shaking yesterday so I should have eggs again come weekend.

My pair haven't eaten their eggs and it's also the 3rd day they still continue to blow at it but most eggs look spoilt there are a few that are still a light brown in color

@Discusnut I'll do the methylene blue later when they are hatching the eggs. I don't want to start doing it yet as the male isn't 100% fertile and they are spawning weekly so they would be exposed to it permanently till the have success.

@Reedfish They'll get there hopefully, I got used to them spawning so the hype is now a little less every time. This helps a lot haha. The last spawn was exciting as they kept the eggs for 3 days, it was over the hatch time and some was still dark so no fertile eggs yet I suppose.

One thing tho, it's a b!tch keeping the water quality good for 2 big fish with a sponge and corner filter only, dammit! I have to do 80% plus daily WC's on the cube. My other tank with a spawning pair and two runts stays clean because of the canister filter. They produce a lot of slime with every attempt. Going to get a dophin c-500 and run it with lots of sponge to catch the slime, I need some sort of mechanical filtration on the cube for between spawnings(like you would use a diatom filter). I had big fright the first time I saw it, it looks like peeling sunburn when it comes off, I had to tell myself its normal because there's no babies to eat it haha, it lasts for a day or two then its gone but the mess it makes...

@BoelderBeestie Ah that sucks, but it seems like its progressing on each spawn so im sure you will be successful soon.
@Adhil Oh okay cool i thought you have had a successful spawn before, seems like both of you can learn from each other now then as its a first for both of you.

I did some reading on the fungus and they say it's happens to the unfertilised eggs and doesn't move over to healthy eggs. Some say the opposite. With mine only the eggs that go white or yellow get it.

They laid eggs today again, all red and no other colour variations so will pay attention to which eggs get it and update as it goes along. Will get a pic when it gets dark and every night now so we can see how they progress.
