The blue stuff in the picture is what I imported way back ..

I use the 10 ppi on HOB and canister intakes
    20 ppi on HMF filters
and the 30 ppi as replacement for some internal filters.

BTW the boyu 550 has a +_ 10 ppi block as the first filter stage.

Pitty I did not get extra stock but who knew the rand would be so weak over the last 3 years ...

Why not use sheets of batting? While you hunt for a local supplier of sponge, I recall a big breeding setup that had sheets of filter foam but a truck load of batting at the top as the initial filter media.

going to use batting layer on top but want the sponge under it. use batting in my jebo works great

give sondor a ring and see what / if they have some in stock and what ppi it is ... I do remember the more dense the sponge the higher the price ..

LOL - all good, but do let us all know if you track a supplier and what the price is. In Feb 2011 Imported Poret was around R750 - R900 per m2 - 50 mm 30 ppi

I remember checking with these guys EMW South Africa - filters and The Filter Warehouse but back then they could not assist me, maybe they have stock now.

here is my egg crateing 87cm L 49cm W. its made out of hardr plastic, i cut it with side cutters. cleand up the edge with a stanley blade. so how will it help me? you can see in the second pic how its in the large chamber in the sump. it sits on glass strips, they are 4cm off the bottom. the crate is going to hold up my filter media. water is going to go through the media and crate then enter the last chamber. the space under the crate is also ideal for putting an air stone that will be conected to my back up system for thoes eishkom days
one more step to the finished project

there is a little update. gave sondor industries the the green light on my quote for 2mL x 1.5mW x0.4H 20 ppi filter foam on friday 1 march. got an email yesterday to say that they had made my order and it was ready to collect wednesday 6 march. i would say that as far as speady service were they actualy made the foam from scratch, and as far as a small order it was the smallest piece they can make and there was no prob.
    cheers doug
