its a 350L sump. the design is along the lines of prof Dirks. water goes in the first chamber then one large chamber with all the filter media and you should have round 10% of the tank volume in filter media. im sure the 20kg of noodels will equal round 20/25L. into the last chamber with return pump and heater. which means that i still have a few more liters to go. one of my LPS do koi and they have got filter sponge that you cut to size, so im sure a few layers of sponge will be a big part of the 70 odd liters to get that 10%

next thing that i got was egg carting from a shop fitting wholesaler. ill cut to size for the middle chamber and res all the media on it. from what i can imagine the egg crate would be the grid in an office light. there will be a 4 cm gap between the crate and the bottom of the sump which will be perfect for an air stone still on the list is some pool filter sand, im thinking two bags they are 40kg each. what im not seeing to much of round my way is big drift wood. lots of mapani but all small bits, what i want two or three 1.5m or 1m pieces hmmm. well as i go the list will surely grow. and as i get it ill fill in the gaps. any input is welcome.

its a funny thing had this tank delivered. the guy who dropped it off came with three porters. iv been keep a 3ft in my front room 1m L 50cm W 55cm H, had to move it and was mucking around until 21:30. well it all went well nothing to report there, so its out of the way. now need to move the big boy hahaha well cant even lift it dry not even 1mm of light under it. stood at the corner grabbed stand with two hands ...ush:...nothing! iv called in some help so hope to have the tank in its spot some time today.

 

Sweet tank dude, I would also maybe place one heater in the sump and one in the main tank close to your outlet so you got some nice water movement around your heater.

What type of fish will you be putting in this monster?

@hviviers75 well im a discus fan so going to put them in, 10 adult discus, i have a bristle nose pleco left over from my juwel.
was thinking maybe i should put a big school of cardinals tetras say 50-80. ottos but what i would really like to get hold of are some altums angels and rams but not sure how planted ill go. what it comes down to is the lighting iv got, the PAR reading will be around 40 at 70 cm. so the best i can hope for is low to medium light growing plants. the little rams love lots of cover. maybe hatchets but not sure what living conditions, have to do more reading

this is the three foot iv had in my front room since i sold my vision 450.
1ml x 50w x 55h 250l +- its got a good old tetratec 1200 a 300 watt liftec heater. put two air power bio sponges.
picked up the UPS that you see on the left, its packing x2 12v 24ha lead sealed batteries.
discus x6 two cobalts one alenquer one brilliant one blue diamond and a clalico or white.
been doing minimum of 10% water change per day and every three days a 50% got the temp 29c

this tank looks like a thimble when you turn and see the 2m that is sitting on the other side of the room. im sure my discus are look over and thinking HURRY UP!

hello every one.
so went down the hill today and got some more odds and ends(plumbing)
for my return im going with 25mm. x10 elbows x2 valves x1 T piece x1 nipple x6m 25mm pipe
so i have a 4800l return pump and ill take both valves connect the to the t piece. one end into the tank with a valve, the other back in to sump and use the vales to dial back my pump. in doing this ill be able fine tune the flow in my tank with out putting strain on the pump. just not sure if ill make a spray bar or if ill just have an open pipe. if any one has any pros or cons on either id love to hear them.
for my overflow i bought a 50mm bulkhead and x2 45 degree bends 1m 50mm pipe

Looks like a nice built man, my 4ft is still in its cycle period and now I already want a bigger tank!! I cant wait to see the end result

 

its bit daunting lots of water! the sump with 70l media=280. tank with substrait drift wood the overflow =750L. its 1080L
there are a few thing ill have to do different standing on a stool to reach to the bottom. cleaning the glass ill do with a brush/ scourer dont want to use a magnet my juwels glass got scratches from magnet cleaner??? was so careful and i still got scratches! want to try and avoid scratches, sure we all do. so no big rock! and as i go im sure some other thing will have to change. well im holding thumbs made plan for some help to get it into place to day so ill keep you all posted and update with a few more pics.

this is the moving crew. a friend of mine has a small construction company and he came round to help

there was a really scary moment with sweaty palms(not funny 200 odd kgs)nearly slipped out my hands!
and in the last shot you can see the biggest helper of all

now that the tank is in its final spot we can stat to play :laugh:
