    nice looking fish bro.

The rocks you have in there look like sandstone. these rocks are know to leech calcium as they often contain calcium. they also know to alter the Ph of the tank. so just be on the look out. This said, I had sandstone in one of my tanks for about two years and with constant monitoring it work perfectly.

If you got them from the beach or ocean, I would suggest to keep them in a separate tank for a few weeks and changing the water every other day. maybe even boiling it for a hour or so to remove all bacteria that could be found in them.

But good luck, will be nice to see the tank in a couple months.

    Have fun

I am using the sandstone to keep my ph high as this is a Tang tank and their natural ph is at about 9. So I specifically decided to use the sandstone. But thanks for being concerned.

I would never use sandstone in my Amazon biotope as in that tank I try and keep the ph under 7.

I am using sea sand as a substrate as well for the same reason.

nice. I have been looking into that as well, but have been to scared to try as i would think its difficult to keep clean.

Have you tried using this before, if so how have you kept it clean?

The tank has no been running for to long. I am hoping if I have good flow and no dead spots that it will stay clean. If not then I will siphon the dirt out and replace it with new sand. Will see what happens.

What kind of setup do you want to use sea sand for?

I havent thought of that yet, I have just been wondering if sea sand would be a good substrate to use.

Some update photos. All is coming along nicely raised the pH of the tank to 9. And all the fish seem to be doing well. Have added some bristle noses babies as well and the seem to be getting along fine with my Tropheus. I have been feeding some Spirulina flakes but the protein that the flakes contain still seems a bit high. What food word you guys recommend? Good pellet food will do the trick. I feed ocean neutrition cichlid vegi pellet. Be careful for the high ph. 8.5 is good 9 is fine.
