I'm sorry, I went to Pet-n-Pond yesterday and counted 14 dead fish all in separate tanks. And one fish with white spot. I won't be going back.

And it's really sad, its the only LFS within 15km from home, excluding Animal Kingdom.

@Krefie: I can walk into any local petshop and find dead fish or sick fish for you. It is unfortunate, but it is part of the hobby.

I understand fully, but if the guys selling you the fish can take a smoke break every 15min and a large female guppy is already past half eaten by the other it has been dead for a day or two.

There is no reason they cant check their tanks once a day between the 3 of them working there. Heck it would take me 5 min just to remove the dead fish.

Sorry I did not mean to hijack, I am just a bit upset with the state of the their tanks.

We can then again put this down to lazy staff, and people who just don't care.
And agree, even Dorry had a few floaters in the tank.

Just wonder is PNP stopped selling the loaches. Phoned them and alerted them to the fact...

@fhmarais: Then point it out, I do it regularly when I notice if fish are sick, dead or incorrectly named. You cannot expect change when you don't so anything. ;) @Krefie.

@Krefie: You don't need to be unpleasant though, if you point it out in a nice way then I am sure they will be nice in return.

All kidding ofcourse, but taking this dead topic out of the tank...lets flush it here.

@Swagasaurus will the batting be fine enough to catch tannin?

@Krefie: No but it is definitely fine enough too catch the finest particles that might be drifting in your tank water.

Problem is I have a problem to see. I can't see detail, and only spotted the white spot problem when I took a photo of the tank and the new adopted kids.

Here is how I layer my HOB filter with batting, from the bottom up I start with the coarsest batting and then go finer all the way up. I end up with 5 layers, when I clean them I always throw away the bottom one and put in a clean one. This is after removing them from the filter after 3 months, they are supposed to be green and white:

I did the same with the canister filter and it works like a bomb.

Still need to decide what I want to do with all my equipment and how to store it, removed the big tool box since I sold off most of the extra stuff I was not using and switched to something smaller.
