@Vis ... Tillapia a important food fish and has excelent growth rates... Nice firm white flesh and highly palateable...
But dont worry...ZS6 has done a couple of koi spawnings this year - my bad influence...he,he...

On the ethical point of eating koi(basicly a carp - Cyprinus carpio) ... Would you chow a maltese Poodle? I always joke with my clients that they are "sushi on the hoof" - but dont think i could chow one..(have eaten dog{and worse} while traveling in the EAST...) - that would be like you eating your favourite Betta... as a general rule, modern society doesnt eat their pets...lol

I think it also depends which market you want to target. Carb is a good grower, good food source, but the meat is crappy. Too soft, have a meal taste, as soon as it gets heat, i becomes mince. Tilapia on the other hand is solid meat. White meat, solid fillets that you can fry in a pan. By the way, you can even put them in sea/salt water for a week or two and you won't be able to tell difference between Tilapia and Hake or most other Salt water fish.

Eating Koi??? Mmmmm...... Yes we are busy with a project in the Mooi Nooi area where the Koi that are normally culled, will go in to a grow out system and the grown to approx. 500g and then sold for eating!! But it is still in the making.

How big are the tallipai you sell? Are they eat ready or are they grown out more?

How much food do you feed a day?

    I sell only fingerlings.

The amount of food depends on the body weight, temp of water and DO. Normally about 15% of bodyweight per day.
