Well thats okay then if they are just detrivores and not plant eaters...always good to have a clean up crew. I will watch their numbers...only seen one in the tank so far...I've managed to curb the snail infestation of those tiny rams horn looking snails in my tank by syphoning them out when I do water changes...their numbers definitely seem to have dwindled a bit...going to see about getting one or two assassin snails in the future though.
Thanks! It's growing back nicely now after the trimming of most of my plants. Haha yes I entered in October I think and won.
Mark it has been a week on the Fertil+ juice, any marked changes in growth or algae etc? The sulphur has me wondering ... I know plant need a bit. Just not sure on it being part of the right mix. Later Ferdie
With the C02 regulator not working for 4 days I stopped dosing any extras...only dosed twice last week then started again yesterday...still thinking I will only dose it once every other day at this stage. With regards to the sulphur, I read it is the one macro element most deficient in all but hardest of water so I guess it makes sense it is present as one of the 6 macro elements...not sure what our water hardness is here though? ...that is something I am still a bit clueless on at present - fresh water test kits...do you get decent ones, and if so what brand is it?
Found 6 of my Galaxy Rasbora dead in the overflow box this morning...not sure from what, but assume its from the heat. The tank temp was very hot this morning...my lounge gets very warm and with this heat wave the last couple of days I dont think it has helped the tank. Cant think of any other cause for death...its very strange? Did a 40L water change to try bring down the temp a bit...slowly topped up as not to drastically change the water temp too quickly. I have also turned on my other return pump to get a bit more flow in the tank for oxygenation and cooling. Have had to leave the canopy open as well to try reduce heat. Anyone have any suggestions for cooling in a FW setup...doubt a chiller is viable?
Have a look on eBay, there are many fans one can buy off there. The fans claim to lower temps by up to 4 degrees. I have similar issues in Durban heat and humidity, luckily I have African cichlids which can take the warmer temps.
There is a built in fan for the tank...but it doesnt have a plug for some reason...need to find a connection for the fan to plug into then maybe it will help, unfortunately been unable to find out what plug/fitting the built in fan needs to work. :/
Hmm if you have a MAX it might be a DC fan ... Red Sea Max 130D User Manual (Page 25 of 55) Later Ferdie
Thanks for the link...been trying to get a link to a manual that works... it is a DC you correct, but it has an unusual connection point and no plugs I have here seem to fit. I finally found a supplier on eBay that sells the full water cooling fan setup, but by the time that gets here it will probably be winter hoping to check with my LFS on Monday if they are able to get spares from their supplier for the tank.
This is the cable coming from the cooling fan... This is how I have had to keep my tank today in the heat.
That might be hard to find ... how about replacing it with another 50x50x15 12 volt DC fan .. - some info RSM 130D cooling fans | Reef Sanctuary Had a quick look on RS ... for Axial Fan These might do the trick .. with a cheap 12 volt supply. 512F | DC Axial Fan, 50 x 50 x 15mm, 20m/h, 1W, 12 V dc (500F Series) | ebm-papst Not sure if the search result will work. looks like a funny RCA plug of sorts .... I would cut it and go strait to a normal 12 volt power supply or alarm battery to test it. Does not look like it had speed control so only 2 wires. Later Ferdie
Side Light cooling fan seems to be 12 volt ... arg - should not be hard to see since you have the tank in-front of you ;-)
lol a little more complex than it would seem as the tank is flush against the wall and I cant really see back there...hoping to pop in to my LFS tomorrow and check out their 130 on display and see what power source it requires.
