My fishtank is bending!

Hi There, I have bought a piece of glass 315x295x6mm to do the bracing. As mentioned that the tank in in operation, now I would like to know what will be the best way to proceed from here as NOT to destroy the tank or kill the fish.

 

So it actually took a second forum member to continue this thread for us to find out that/how the first member eventually resolved his problem. -naughty, naughty ;-)

Come on guys, perhaps the festive season is to blame, with a lot of people on holiday and not very active on the forum, ......BUT, surely somebody in Jhb/Pretoria area has a spare/old 2 or 3ft tank lying around which could come to good use for a few days and help @Andrewv in his predicament.

@Andrewv -First price would be doing the bracing on an empty tank. You can put the fishes into a spare tank (hopefully there will be some forum members who are able to help) or into a few buckets (don't know what fishies you have and how many).

Second Price: If you can not take everything out of the tank (i.e. Plants, scape...) then let as much water out of the tank as you can. I would go down to 30% or less (the less the better). You need to reduce the water pressure and hopefully at the same time the bending of your glass. Then use your wood and clamps. I would attach a wooden block below the brace on either side, the brace can rest on the wood (you might need 4 clamps). Put some masking tape or electrical isolation tape below and above the strip where you want to put the silicone down. You can remove this when the silicone has settled a bit (but not fully yet) to get a nicer finish. Use ice blocks from your fridge (the blocks you put into your drinks) to work with silicone. You use the ice block like a spatula, silicone doesn't stick to it) you literally can 'sweep' the silicone into place. Works much better than wetting your finger and messing the silicone all over, because silicone still sticks to a wet finger, although less so then to a dry one. When you are done and need a bit of cleaning after the silicone has set, use Acetone but be careful and stay away from the silicone which keeps the brace in place.

Fortunately I have a technical back ground and able to most things but I ask advice as there are others here on the forum that must have done this sort of thing and can give one pointers in what NOT to do and to do it correctly. It really cost nothing to ask the people here on the forum for advice, just look at you for instance you gave me some good advice with the ice blocks. I would have used my finger as one normally would. As the saying goes 'You are Never too old to learn new things". Thanks once more.
