    I don't follow completely what the reason for this is. Do you do it to clean the leaves of contaminants or to rid it of some tanins? Or is there another reason for?

    @DoubleDutch, is there a specific reason for adding the leaves? Is it only for Decor or does it have more purpose to it? Sorry I had to ask never seen it before, only heard about it.

    Thanks. Both reasons !!! Have a look at youtube fils about natural habitat of south amarican fish. Lots of them live in creeks, rivers and lakes in which there is a layer of leaflitter. Some are even stained brownish cause of that !!!
    Beneficial bacteria, tanins, food for shrimp aso !!

    Thanks for clarifying that, understand it better now :). Will definitely do some more reading/viewing into the matter its very interesting!!!

    I saw a fantastic video with wild Cardinal Tetras and their environment I purely brown, dense leaf litter. Hardy a piece of greenery to be found.

    Correct Greg !!! Water often is too acidic for lots of plants I think !!!
