Morning everyone. So as you may know if you've been following this thread, today is the day Im finally going to get the long awaited Dwarf Puffers! . I did a 20percent water change this am, so now the tankmis just waiting. Just dropped my wife for her drivers learners application, then Ill be making plans to go to the LFS. I have ordered the Fluval EGDGE intake sponge which will apparently fit the AC30. I have received confirmation that it should be at the store today. In the meantime, while I have some time now and might as well ask. Did anyone who owned DPs have issues with them inflating while transferring from LFS bags to the tank? I have heard that they should not leave water as this might stress them, causing them to inflate. This leaves me in a dillema as I never pour my fish into the tanks with LFS water to prevent disease spread. Are they really that sensitive? What do I do?

Exciting! i have transferred my puffers (dwarf and figure 8's) with a net many times without a problem, just try to do it as quickly as possible or if you drip - aclimate them just do it for longer and keep scooping the water out of the bucket, after an hour and a half maybe of doing this you can scoop them up with a jug and a small amount of water to transfer them into the new tank, just take your time they should be OK , maybe put an airstone in the bucket

Brilliant advice! Thanks sir. Will do. Now to do final water tests then go get the intake sponge. Will only be buying DPs later. I want my wife with, but the traffic department queues. Nuff said . Thanks again @GaryG.

Hi everyone especially @Linxie @SterlingAce @GaryG @Kobusb @Rattatou1e @tanked72 @hencoloots @MariaS, please excuse me if I left anyone out. I have some good and bad news. Good news is that I have photos of the 3 puffers I bought on Saturday, of them being dripped and acclimated, and introduced into the water. Everything went well, and they swam around exploring the surroundings. Happy chap, on Saturday eve ready for nap time and proud of my DP tank. Which brings me to the bad news . When I woke up Sunday morning, I found 2 of the puffers out of the tank and as you an imagine, deac. This had disappointed me as it obviously wasn't part of the plan, but I guess thats life, I can only control so much within the limits of my knowledge and I have learnt a lesson. Now, had I read, or heard that Dwarf Puffers are jumpers, would I have obviously prepared for this by installing a glass cover over the tank. But I didnt think that would be an issue. I have the one (which I believe to be a female) left, and she hasnt followed by doing the same. She is eating and being normal albeit a slight onset of white spot (I believe is stress related because of travelling and new tank) which I have started treating since yesterday with Artemiss (DPs are scaleless so no hardcore meds). Water parameters are good, as I tested this am.

I plan to go and buy a sheet of glass that would cover at least 90% of the top (10% for HOB output and the clip on led) this coming Saturday, then I will go the rest of the DPs.

I could still post the photos, but I dont think its relevant anymore?

Any suggestions or feedback, please feel free.

Why don't you rather use some of that plastic mesh type of stuff to put over the top, then you can cut it to fit around whatever that sticks out of the water. In this way you can cover all the holes that they might be able to jump through.. :)

You might need something to support it with so that it doesn't bend into the water.. But you can think of a plan there..

Eish man, I'm so sorry to hear that :( My puffers have never jumped before and all my tanks are open top tanks.
I think in summer it might be better to get a mesh for the tank and in winter use glass or perspex as a lid.

Sorry to hear about the jumpers....that is very wierd ive never had jumpers either and my dp tank has always been open top aswell and the white spot aswell. A glass top would look best in my opinion.

Im going to try and get the puffers from Panorama Petshop this time. The fish couldve been carrying the disease all along, and just when I netted them for the big move from Petworld to home, couldve dropped their immune systems a bit too low, causing me to sit with the sick and slightly "startled" fish? I did notice that the tank with the DPs at Petworld were packed with DPs and a whole bunch of other fast moving fish as well as strong flow from the output. At Panorama theyre in a naturally lit tank, species only, with a mild flow. Come to think of it maybe I shouldve gone with Panorama as I intially was going to, but because the tank at Petworld looked more "lively" and "brighter" it obviously got my attention like an immature child easily swayed by the delicious colourful sweets on offer by the man in the old vrot, rusted karrentjie . Anyway, im not so sure if I like the glass cover idea, especially because none of you guys had the issue. Maybe ill put it on for the first few days, and lift it off once theyre settled.

It happens, they could have gotten a fright, or like you say, due to the stress of the move, decided to take the plunge.

    Do you have other pets?

Yea stress or illness is the most likely cause.....get your new puffers from the other shop and maybe just drop the water level for the first week or so.

Make sure the survivor is healthy before adding new fishes good luck bud
