    Hi everyone

    Thought I'd quickly post some pics. My Xingu pair raising their biggest most successful batch of fry.

    @Marco those Xingu's are stunning. Best of luck with this spawn. I think it is time for me to get my dream discus tank with some of them in it.

    Hi

    Its been a while since I have posted on TASA.
    In recent months I have been working on getting my fishroom totally parasite free.
    This will in future be the only way by which I will breed and raise fish in my fishroom. It does mean that I will need a small 2nd fishroom for breeding new additions, but this is a small price to pay for long term progress.

    Rams
    I have now sold of the first Dark knight Rams and have started work on developing a further 2 Ram lines. It is a long term project but hopefully the first ones will be available in about 6 months. All depending on personal satisfaction with the goal I have in mind.
    The Dark knight line will also still get a great deal of attention as I do believe it has loads of room for improvement.

    Discus.
    I am at present raising a few batches of Parasite free Discus. These were spawned by non-parasite free parents and I removed eggs and raised them parasite free myself. The results speak for itself - with fry reaching 5-5.5cm size in less than 50 days from hatching.
    Its been an absolute pleasure to raise them, and they are now at a stage where they are starting to colour up.
    Next up I hope to achieve the same with a Super Eruption pair.

    Thank you for reading.

    Regards

    Marco

    @Marco,

    Very nice. The growth rate of the para free Discus is fantastic

    Out of interest.
    When you move the youngsters on. More than likely the person's situation won't be para free. So the fish will pick something up? Will they become very susceptible to getting sick as they had not been exposed to disease before?

    Thanks for the compliments.

    @Reedfish
    What must be understood of parasite free fish is that a parasite is not something against which an organism can ever become immune against.
    Bacterial immunity is possible and ideal, as low immunity means any bacterial disease will hugely affect the organism.

    Parasites are always detrimental though, and I firmly believe that once a parasite free Discus is at 6cm size, and it then gets infevted by say flukes or intestinal parasites such as Flagellates, it has had a good start and had the oppurtunity to develop optimally, and so it handles the new "infection" much better than a juenile at same age that was basically infected from birth.
    I have just recently moved a few 4cm fry to their parents tank, thereby exposing them to parasites, and thus far there has been no difference in their growth or behaviour. I put this down to a good start.

    My Parafree discus will however suffer greatly if exposed to some fish from Asia due to bacterial contamination.
    The process of making them parasite free also eliminates most bacteria, and this will most certainly be an issue once exposure occurs. This will always be a risk with any Discus however, and most European bred fish would also fall ill if exposed to low grade Asian fish.
    "Plague" is a constant threat with Asian fish, and so its vital to knkw the origin.
    If exposed to fish from Vietnam - my Discus will most probably be dead within 3 days.

    So in that way caution is required

    Rgds

    @Marco,

    Thanks for the info
    Yup, I guess it's worth it for the good start, irrespective of what happens later.

    @Marco I would love to see a update on your rams as I have recently become very interested in them and I absolutely love the Dark night strain.

    Hi @Ladysphinx

    Not much to update on the Ram front to be honest.
    At present I am working on breeding and raising Parasite free offspring from all the lines I have. I now have fry from a new Electric blue line which are about 10 days old.
    Its the first time I work on my own Electric blue line, and I will see where it takes me. So for the next few months my focus will be mainly on Electric blue, Dark knight and Powder blue.
    The Dark knights I will try and refine and strengthen in time, maybe try and increase some colour in them. Not much else I can do though

    Regards

    @Marco,
    Good to hear about the para free progress you are making with your Rams

    What's going on with your Discus?
    That last Tan shipment?

    Marco post some pics for us. And glad to hear you're still doing well with the rams.
    Does the Parasite free rams have stronger immune system then others.

    I have seen that Rams bought on LFS seem to be very weak and most die even after the best care possible. Their reputation for being extremely sensitive is what kept me from even attempting to get some
