    hahaha ja jy wil mos!!!

See that is why I stay away from the CO2, I prefer to stay low tech just to prove you dont need CO2 for something stunning

Hmmm - noticed that the pump on lucky 13 has not been running, can only think it was switched of by the other 1/4 while she was trying to find the electrical burning thing that turned out to be a melted heater the beginning of the week.
Decided to do a dry clean - remove all the hydroton and replace the pots and sponged plants.

Not sure this is what I want to do long term but it was a quick fix.

    lucky_13_004.jpg

All the plants removed from the shelf

    lucky_13_05.jpg

Removed a liter of hydroton and other dry material
    lucky_13_08.jpg

Did a split on the sponge and plant.

    lucky_13_06.jpg

placed the potted plants back - no in-between substrate this time
    lucky_13_07.jpg

hope some survive - still some green on some ferns.

Will let is sit till the morning, see if other inspiration strikes.

Indeed - it is a pleasure to listen to the water dripping into the tank.

BBA is going to be a battle ... did some hydrogen peroxide and a WC, will scrape the glass during the week then another WC.
    lucky_13_09.jpg

Added a 11w CFL on the right for more growth now that the T5 is lifted.

Removed the heater - do not want a repeat of last year's seasonal change.

Almost time to put the heaters back in the tanks ... lucky13 has seen the most effort over the last few months .. i.e. new substrate ( see LECA Filtration Media/ Substrate)

the tank (*CFL is my computer night light not part of the tanks lighting)
    lucky13April2014a.jpg

    the filtration
    lucky13April2014b.jpg

matrix makes a good medium as part of the filtration

    lucky13April2014c.jpg

Very pleased with the progress on the tank .. all the plants are slow growers since this is low light and low fert with low CO2 on the Taifun. Yes most plants are facing the window since it get majority of the light from direct sunlight.

No algae in the tank thanks to these guys.

    lucky13July19e.jpg

Now on the shelf it is a different story - hence something needs to change.

This tank was in need of a WC - and since it is the focus (pun intended) of my RPI camera project ... thought I would share a few pics of the process.

LOL .. it is guppies so the number is tightly related to the hedging forecast on the rands performance against other commodities. (i.e who knows)

    Stock on lucky 13 -

    a few guppies - call it X
    3 SAE
    3 female betta's
