As soon as I have my ADSL line installed (hopefully next week) I'll start uploading the pics of the species I have

@wsteene - nice pics mate, but be careful on those edits. A slight touch-up is all that is needed. If you play with colour balances, contrast and saturation too much you'll get unrealistic colours, which won't be of too much help in a fish database. Your pictures are fine here but you're approaching the 'danger zone' :cheesy:

They just look like awesome pics to me... But then I'm a saturation-***** and the monitor I use isn't really something that will accentuate that even more to unrealistic levels.

Haha I was in your position before @Rory - and my case was particularly bad, as I suffer from mild colour-blindness. After some mild mind-adjusting, I managed to overcome that and my saturation addiction.

But anyways, like I said, these pictures are fine - they still represent the fish colours properly, they don't hurt anyone's eyes, and the pictures themselves are clear. But a nudge to the left or right on those scales could definitely ruin a picture. It's best to do ever-so mild adjustment, with only slight deviation from the original picture, to stay safe :blink1:

    Regards

@Newby - Brachydanio rerio is better known as Danio rerio, the Zebra Danio. What you have got there seems to be a genetically modified strain of D. rerio, spliced with coral and/or jellyfish DNA to make it that colour and to make it glow brightly under a blacklight. You might want to google "GloFish". I have seen these guys for sale in LFSs, even though they are patented in the US. But they aren't sterile and the genes are passed from parents to offspring, so near impossible to regulate anyway.

The original strain of D. rerio is striped blue/black and silver.

Thanks for the info @Zeiphex...My wife got them from a very trusty LFS and when we decided to redo her tank they found a new home in the big tank. They do look VERY beautiful at night when the "moonlights" are on.

Thanks @SalmonAfrica....When we bought them we were told they are "pure" and not "messed" with. I do trust the LFS we got them from but it is always nice to get input from you guys.

    Something to research....hmmmm...sounds great

@SalmonAfrica, I do take note on what you've said about editing, thanks for the heads up. I do try to stick within the limits (lurking very close to the danger zone) and only set the contrast and levels correct, I do not want to mislead anyone with the appearance of the fish, just want to give it my best shot and display the natural colors as close as possible. Will follow the advice as given. Just want to include the other photo's I've taken with the others over the weekend. Hope it serves the purpose.
