They will mate with any female you put with them. It is great not to know what the fry would look like. They only colour up after a few months.
You would be famous if you can breed a true purple one.

    Linxie's new tank

I'm too excited about this, have to share it with you.
Just not sure where to start :push:

I was thinking of doing the tank as per attached design, but then I got thinking last night. Instead of doing the cave, I could do an interesting underground piping system for the kuhli loaches. What are the negatives on this?

Am going to cover all pipes (filter inlet and whatnot) with silicone and silica sand.

The wood and some rocks will be covered with moss and the ground will be covered with grass.

Any other ideas you could share with me?

    sounds cool.

you could run into problems if food or fish poo ends up in the pipes and starts decomposing. you will end up with some nasties in the water. and also if a fish dies in there. nice idea though.

hmmm, sounds like a cool idea, maybe add a air pump to your "tunnel" system so that you can flush out the nasties when they do occur, kinda like a back wash system. Only have it run when necessary like on water change day or something.

    Thanks Theo & Aidan.

Aidan, that's a good idea! I'll see how it goes, otherwise I'll keep the pipes above ground, but they'll be covered in silica so will look natural.

Thanks JesseG, glad you like it :)

If you are able to rough up the surface of the pipe and score a few grooves across it, then you could also attach moss onto the pipe, which will also help conceal it! Another trick is to Silicon Mopani Bark or Cork Bark to it, and it almost becomes like another log if done well!!

Just a couple more thoughts for you!!

So hows the tank looking now?? Done anything to it?? Are you gonna make me regret selling it and wish I'd just spent that time tidying it up??

    Cheers
    G!

hehehe Big G :D Ofcourse I'm going to make you regret it :p lol just kidding. You have another lovely tank in your backyard ^^,

That's actually a great idea regarding the moss and bark! Hmm, now to find some bark safe for the tank!

Tank has been cleaned... getting the silicone either today or tomorrow. Have scraped most of the silicone off, but need a razor blade to do the rest. LOL a knife just isn't cutting it.

    Thank you ^^,

Gareth (my Gareth, not you hehe) drew the tank in 3D for me, then I just started sketching the plants in and added the grass and rocks last :D lol

You can see how excited I am to get this tank done. Seriously can't wait ^^,

Sounds very cool linxie. Would be no trouble building some airpipes in with the tubes.
Gonna be a real bubble party when turned on.
I also need to conceal a pipe and thought to do the silica thing and then some ekstra flat pebbles
On top. So it would look like a well formed heap of rocks om the surface of the substrate

Are you planning to use your drawing as a blueprint or a general guide?

As a general guide. Actually thinking of redrawing it to scale with the new ideas implemented.

O Ok, because looking at the spacing, plants used, proportions etc it would be about a 2ft you drew.
Made that mistake and found I had loads of open space not accounted for.

Yeah, there will definitely be some space between the bacopa and amazon... you're right though, think I should redo the drawing :D
