    Thanks Khalid ^^,
Have found that taking photo's of a fish tank or of the fish themselves is probably one of the most difficult forms of photography. Me desperately needs a macro lens for this as I've had to crop nearly every single photo.

Oh cool, which one is that?

    the "black tale" guppy
I can never take a good pic of the guppies they just move too fast, but then I only have a cell phone to take all my pics.

Oh cool :) I can't believe how long his dorsal fin is... should see him when he's "pronking"

Yeah the guppies are fast little etters :D I think I stood there for half an hour trying to take decent pics of them, because everytime I lifted the camera they'd swim away. Eventually they got used to it, but carried on doing their own thing which didn't involve staying anywhere near the front glass lol

Well, you have the patience and commitment I do not have.
My guppy looks different in different light from black to a dark purple, a stunner for all the females

Oh that's a lovely colour combo!
Mine's got weird colours which I can't quite capture properly. He's blue, with a redish kind of stripe going across his tail.

    Thanks Theo,
I was on the look out yesterday and the day before, but I realised that now isn't a good time to take a female on.

I'm fetching my new tank from Big G tomorrow, so once that puppy has cycled, I'll be moving all the fish and plants to that tank, then I'll get a female and keep her there, while the male has his own tank. Then when I'm ready to breed with them, I'll do all that is necessary ^^,

Theo it is very difficult to get good looking female and just when you think you have the perfect most gorgeous female it turns out to be a male.
Please read the above in context

I have to agree with this comment!! I am a Semi-Pro photographer and have taken all kinds of pics from Wildlife to Weddings, and Aircraft to Concerts (my favourite!) and Fish is by far the hardest!!

Mind you, it does help to have the right equipment for the job, like a good Macro lens!! I have been using a Canon L series 28 - 70mm lens for my shots, great lens, but it doesn't focus quick enough for fish, and often struggles with distortion from the actual tank water!!

I'd be interested to know what gear you are using Linxie?? Maybe PM me so that you do not attract any unwanted interest?? I can show you my Camera when you come omorrow if you are interested??

    Cheers
    G!

    Thanks Big G,
Honestly, I don't mind a slight thread derailment, but I'll pm you anyway ^^,

Sorry! Wasn't meant to be a derailment!! I thought it was related!!

Nice Tank by the way!! Have you ever thought about getting a slightly larger tank, maybe a 90cm?? would look good in your Kitchen!! Funnily enough, I have one sitting right here!! lol!!

    Cheers
    G!

LOL usually I'd chat away on a forum without thinking about derailing a thread.
For those interested, I shoot with a Nikon D80 and a kit lens (18-55mm)

hmmm I wonder which tank that would be :p

I've experienced this exact problem too. My problem is that I don't have a camera where I can add lenses. When I bought it it was considered a high end camera in the digital market, befote going to the pro stuff. It's a Sony Cybershot. Yes it does have a Macro function on it, but nothing compared to the real thing.

It take a lot of time and patience. The problem with moving fish, bubble, plant movement etc the camera struggles to focus.

I've got an opposite problem. Whenever I pull the camera out, I have to "chase" the fish away from the glass because they come crowding around thinking it's food. I've made a habit of shaking the food bottle in front of the glass before I feed the fish, and the movement get's them all excited. So out comes the camera.. and they think food!

I also use a net to take a lot of plant matter out once in a while-- like netting the leaves out a pool... and do you know how many times I've accidentally netted up a fish because they don't swim away from the net anymore.

Would it not be a good idea to get 2 or 3 females. And after conditioning them, you can introduce the best looking female to the male for breeding. The females make pretty good companions in a community tank, so the other 1 or 2 could just stay with the other fish.

That's a nice camera you have Zoom. Those Sony Cybershots are great little point and shoots ^^,

LOL I too shake the food in front of the tank before feeding the fish, and I usually do this the minute I get home, so when they see me come in the front door, they all swim to the front by the hole.

haha such trusting fish we have. Many times have I accidentally knocked a fish when trying to adjust a plant or something. I also have this special cup which only goes into the tank, which I use for the blood worm. So whenever I put this cup in the water to take some tank water out, I find a few fry have decided to investigate, so I need to do this a few times before getting water without fry in it :D gotta love them fish! such cute little critters.

You have a point there Zoom... it would be a good idea to do that yeah. Thanks, I'll definitely get more than one.

Just wondering now, do the Betta's choose a mate for life, or are they ok swopping partners? Would be interesting to breed with a slightly different colour Betta and see what the fry looks like :)

You might need to check that with Solex. I beleive you could mix and match.... also bear in mind that after spawning, you will have to remove the female fro mthe male. He'll look after the fry
