@Swagasaurus - mmmm....no need to spend time thinking on something which has been discussed to boredom.
Pls indicate to me where I pointed out who has the authority and who has not? Wrong tree...?
Im not discussing this - Rory is the one that has to air the final decision on this.

AGAIN i ask-(can one of you step to the plate and answer me pls)
Why is it such an issue to you to be naming the shop in a PM to an interested party rather than naming the shop in the thread?

You guys complain abt tasa's attitude, moderator attitude and sponsor attitude - but completely see past yourselfs making an issue over a petty thing! Amazed!

Finally - and all that I have said above is merely 'talk'; Rory (as I have said) must just clarify this.
Apart from that though the moderator team are receiving more complaints and have noted that the same members are constantly involved when complaints are lodged, or things flare up. Things on tasa have been civil the last few mths - please lets keep it as such.

Well Coldcat that is exactly the point now - you yourself highlight conditions on when and when not something should be allowed?
So tomorrow a new member joins and we do not know him from a bar of soap and he adds to this thread as part of an ad campaign for his shop...? Exactly how are we suppose to know and establish this?
Or some Piet's friend owns a shop and Piet thinks he will help out his buddy by dropping a few hints here....? All while other sponsors have to pay for the same space?

Very few Joubert, Stiphodon being one but extremely rare to find and need a specialized tank. I think a true SAE does too.

Yeah but you can pick up on that easily when someone is on a constant advertisement spree of a place. I'm a mod on separate forum. Not fish related at all. We allow open discussions on competitors, only when there's advertisement there's editing. Even have a similar thread to this. Yeah you can argue with the fact that this site is not like the rest and you want to hold your own, but competition isn't a bad thing. Spammers show a pattern, pick one up, ban him, IP gets flagged. Sorted.

If a member posts about live stock that's rare, sponsors can comment if they have same stock or if they can get, if they not able to get the same live stock then it's not competition at all is it? If anything they can learn what is popular for them to source.

Just to be clear, having a discussion, worst thing is having members attack and belittling mods my intention is certainly not this, I know from experience, rules don't always rub some people the right way, know this too, but just be careful this forum doesn't start to dictate content that can restrict growth of the hobby and actually scare off members.

I agree with this statement but if the price is not inline then it does not matter. If you see the fish for R300 and the sponsor is selling for R600 it is a no brainer for me regardless of sponsorship. I am not going to make a bad financial decision just because of a sponsorship. If the price is inline i would easily buy from a sponsor even if it is slightly more expensive.

This is absolute nonsense and very narrow minded.

The lfs sponsers needs us more than we need them.
As far as I know they pay to be a sponser here its called advertising. If they were any good they can use this thread to their advantage to do some market research. If this thread intimidate them then they must rather relook their business model.

yes I do agree not to allow any span advertising and so far none of this happend so I don't understand what the moderators are on about.
maybe I joined this forum under the wrong impression thinking its a community trying to help each other.

    Just my 2cw

@OBI - i asked nicely to keep this civil did I not?
You make a broadstroke statement that its narrow minded without being specific.
Ok - here goes - your entire "2c" was narrow minded. Make sense to you?
@Coldcat - you raise the point that sponsors can comment on having certain species or not.
Please explain to me how mentioning the other LPS's name attributes value to the thread? You guys are all on the 'value' added but you cant explain and define how naming the LPS adds any value?
Certainly a sponsor can comment on him having a species or not-without having a non-sponsor LPS name mentioned? Baffling....?

For the 3rd time - @Rory is the one to give a final verdict on this.

I agree to a certain level with the sentiment raised in this thread. However Im still waiting for one of the complaining members to enlighten me on the "vast" difference between naming the LPS - and not naming the LPS...?
Wow...im actually baffled ...and then you guys call us petty?

Also agree there is a distinct difference between advertising and sponsoring.

If the sponsors are purley sponsors, then the fee to be a sponsor would be ridiculously low, as it does not cost much at all to run a forum such as this. You van host vBulletin (the software which drives this forum) in their cloud for R 300.00 per month, incl. of 75 GB international bandwidth. You need very little else. That fee is really peanuts in the bigger scheme of things.

There are 10 odd sponsors here, so every sponsor should be paying around R 30.00 per month. If it is much much more than this, then in-fact the sponsors are advertisers, and the forum has the objective of financial gain. That is fine, but then we need to talk about advertisers who are paying alot of money for exclusivity etc..

If the situation is that the 'sponsors' are uncofortable about another LFS being mentioned in a non-promotional/advetorial way, then personally I'd rather support LFS's which don't have insecurities such as this. If you run a good business, these things do not worry you the slightest, in-fact you would participate and convert the hobbiest to your business.

Yes it is perfectly fine to name another shop, but we don't like it when you full on punt them all the time, or even put prices down. Because Joe will say "guppies R50 at Pets R Us", then Frank will come along and say he paid "R100 at Pets 4 You", and then the inevitable all out flame war ensues with name calling and pointless threats etc. which does nothing but derails from an otherwise informative discussion. So use common sense please, saying something like "I saw great white sharks at Pets 4 Me" is fine.

And before you all attack the moderation team for "getting it wrong", we apologise, we're not perfect, sometimes we too make mistakes. We will rectify everything. Let's move on with the discussion please, thank you. :)

All joking aside can we create a new thread for this discussion unless it is now closed?

Not trying to beat a dead horse here, but I did not mention a name on the shop yet was deleted, how was that the same as mention name?

Look don't care much on my find, it wasn't grand at all, but you going to annoy members if you did the same with me. personally doesn't bother me. I'm just bringing this up so you don't fall into the same debate again.

Separate note; asked what sponsors are local to me (Cape Town) interested in looking there and not got that answer. Went through all the sponsors now. Liked them on FB and Twitter for updates and to show support. didn't spot a local one (Local to cape town area that is).

Thank you for a nice and level-headed response. I think this is exactly what I had in mind and I think it is very reasonable.

I was in a shop that labelled them as SFF but looked totally different to the SAE I ended up getting at another shop. They were much bigger, more skittish and were not sucking/cleaning any surfaces.

all this confusion with SAE I'll just get ottos in future.
