The new ones on the left hand side are all full of goldfish. I have to say they look good (both the tanks and the goldfish) although they aren't really my thing!

The tanks do look stunning - it gave me hope. I was hoping they would stock it with some interesting new fish and bring some variety to our market in Pretoria. What a waste on Goldfish! (Sorry all goldfish lovers)

No, goldfish are horrible, so it is definitely a waste.

In recent months I have seen an increase in the number of people selling of exotic crocodiles on Facebook groups and Online Classified Sites. It is currently legal to keep any species of crocodile except for Nile Crocodiles which are protected in South Africa and are illegal to keep. - See more at: Keeping Crocodiles in Captivity | Tims Reptile Supplies

Ok.... After working at a pet shop, I can shed some light on the subject for you...

You may keep any type of exotic animal as long as it is NOT indigenous to SA.

For any of our own indigenous creatures you will have to apply for a permit to be able to own them, e.g. Aurora & Brown House Snakes, certain Chameleon species, Crows, Indian Mynahs etc...

I don't believe in selling an animal to someone who will not be able to handle, care for or house properly certain exotic "pets" when they reach adulthood... It's not fair to the animal in the long run.

    That's just my 2c worth...

@Jeeves, Sorry, but I have to correct you on that... not a reed fish. That is a Bichir or Polypterus. and the one you have looks like the P. Senegalus.

The reedfish / rope fish you are referring to is much longer but belongs to the same family though. Erpetoichthys calabaricus.
