Time to rehash this old thread ..

So this is the thread that has the least moaning about the BL and what it is and is not, lets see if we can keep it that way.

I did a search for site:tropicalaquarium.co.za Conservation of Agricultural Resources , site:tropicalaquarium.co.za National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act and site:tropicalaquarium.co.za CARA and none answered my question.

(BTW I am on about plants not fish etc here) browsing http://www.arc.agric.za/home.asp?pid=1031 and I spotted some interesting comment on the page ...

    "
[h=1]Legal obligations regarding invasive alien plants in South Africa[/h]

    • The only currently active legislation on weeds and invasive plants in South Africa forms part of the Conservation of Agricultural Resources Act, 1983 (Act No 43 of 1983) (CARA). Regulations 15 and 16 under this Act, which concern problem plants, were amended during March 2001. CARA is currently (2011) in the process of being revised.
    • The National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act (Act No 10 of 2004) (NEM:BA) also has a chapter dealing with alien species and invasive species, which is relevant to this subject. The regulations in terms of this chapter have, however, not been finalized, and as a result this chapter cannot be implemented yet.
      "

Now does this mean that actually we are only bound by CARA as currently published? Meaning ...

      "

      • Aquatic plants: red water fern (Azolla filiculoides); dense water weed (Egeria densa); water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes); Canadian water weed (Elodea canadensis); parrot's feather (Myriophyllum aquaticum); spiked water-milfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum); water lettuce (Pistia statiotes) and Kariba weed (Salvinia molesta)."

Are these the only plants that are a no no?

All a bit weird if you ask me.

Or am I missing one more act in this play?

        Later Ferdie

    eish NO pics please ;-)

Yeap Henk seems like it is lucky next year is only a few hours away. Truth be told it makes more sense putting the plant stuff in CARA than some other list.

No CARA falls away when the Biodiversity act lists become law but there are other regulations in place relating to plants etc. but for the love of god!!!!!!

SHRIMPS ARE NOT OFF THE BLACK LIST! THEY ARE STILL ILLEGAL!

Until we get conformation that the Biodiversity act lists become law please just sit tight and keep the illegal stuff off the forum. There is a lot going on in the back ground.

That sucks. I'd like to have shrimps, but oh well. I know there's a LFS with a whole tank full of them, but not for sale though.
