Hey @jabula 7749, how's the fry going? Any more spawns? I've been trying to get my clown plecos to spawn but now luck. What ratio of males to females do you have in your setup? Did you do anything like simulate rainy season to induce spawning, or did you just wait for it to happen?

Hi @MattLammI had plenty of bad luck with the babiesFirst lot died after I forgot to switch on heater after water change3 weeks ago I lost 10 after the pump stopped when we were away for 10 daysCurrently I.have about 13 babiesThey spawn every 5 weeks.between 7 and 15 babies hatch.then only half makes it pass 2 weeks.Spawnings are much smaller than normal ancistrus and they grow much slower!I think 2 of the most important things getting them to spawn is to give them their own specie tank, and then to condition them.I feed meaty foods dailyBloodworm frozen brine shirmp beefheart crab meatIve got 4 males and 2 females but I think it is the same pair pairing up al the time.Hope it helps

Hi @jabula 7749. Sorry to hear about the run of bad luck! That really is a pity.

I was thinking I'm going to have to setup a species tank but haven't had the time. I currently have them in a community tank, but it's mostly just other plecos in there together with some small shoaling fish like galaxies and neons. Think I must do the species setup in my quarantine tank.

I know I mentioned before, but if you do sell any of the fry once they have grown out please let me know! Thanks for the info.

Awesome. I would definitely be keen, even if they still small. I would be keen to take a bunch of them, depending on how many I can afford! Please give me first option if you decide to sell.

Howsit guys, i currently have a pair of common ancistrus(fortunate enough to have them spawn once) and some red jewel(different name on import list but looks like the super reds in the above posts) have 5 fry from a pair ....and some albinos(long finned and original fin structure)

So i am hoping to get in some dolicopterus(or similar, black with white spots) but am in the process of setting up new tanks(1180 x 300 x 430...split in 5 compartments two of these tanks)to split my pairs into as well as grow out tank to follow(1200 x 400 x 450,split in two)...will post picts once complete

Hey @jabula 7749, what age / size did your L201s need to be before they were mature enough to spawn?

    Hi @MattLamm

It aint easy to say because you never know how old they are when buying them.

I had mine for 14months before I put them into their own tank, and they spwaned within 3 weeks!

I would say around 12 to 18 months old
