    Hey @sick -lid man! Welcome!

Guys, I'm really trying to be proactive here and I'm trying to get all the KZN members acquainted. There's been a lack of interest in the hobby recently and its really sad. Most don't know proper fish care and are too afraid to ask for help. Lets get acquainted!

There could be someone in KZN who keeps the same species you do. Lets spread the knowledge and learn from each other.

Our list is short, but has grown since the initiation of this thread. Here's a list of some of the guys in KZN.

If you're not on the list, just make a post here and tell us about your tank, fish and your interests.

No fish currently. I'm in Durban North right now, but spend most of my year in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape. I have some spare equipment/decor and a helpful hand if anyone needs, but can't do much in the way of fish. Let me know if you need anything.

    Regards,

Hi all, I'm from Durban in the Hillcrest area. Just recently started keeping fish, buily my first 3ft tank a little while ago and immediately realised I wanted bigger so I'm busy setting up my new 5ft tank, should be ready in about a month and a half.
I'm mainly interested in cichlids, and have 6 of the guys at the moment.
Here are a few pics of my tank and the canopy and cabinet I did :

hey @dash! Welcome to the forum!

Planted tanks are amazing but can be a lot of work to maintain and get right.

Search the planted tank section for info on lighting, substrate, ferts and additives as well as CO2 options.

Depending on how much you want to spend, you can go low tech and keep a few species like Rotala, Java fern, Ecinodorus and Crypts...just to name a few.

If you want to spend a lot, you can do a iwagumi, amano or dutch setup (Google)

PM me if you need help

Here's a pic of my setup

Using Seachem Flourite, Seachem Flourish, Seachem Potassium, Seachem Excel. My tank size is 40L and is running 18W CFL lighting. This setup cost me around R2000 with filtration. No CO2! This is classified as a low tech setup.

I got everything you see in that pic, excluding the plants and decor from @Altum. (Lighting, substrate, chemicals and additives + filter + filter media)

He can supply you with seachem stuff.

@Sean J can hook you up with ADA pressurized CO2 as well as ADA Aquasoil, if you choose to go with a soil substrate.

Plants, you can get here in Durban. Keep in contact with me. I never pay more than R20/pot for plants.
