Joys of big tanks

also big fan of stc 1000 think i have 7 running threw house
on my big tanks i have 2kw heater running off the stc 1000

 

@PeterTKZN stupid question over here why use the STC 1000 temp controller instead of your aquarium heater's own temperature controller? Is there some sort of benefit to doing it this way?

 

@CharlZA the stc unit is more accurate than the normal heater thermostat. I found on my 300lt tank I had a temperature differential of up to 2 degrees either side of the set temp on the heater thermostat. Also what I found with my heaters thermostat is , I would set the temp to 26deg. The temp would drop to around 24.2-24.5 deg only then would the thermostat kick in and the heater would then heat the water and usually overshoot the set temp to around 27-28.5 deg. So it is really not accurate. The stc unit maintains the same 300lt tank to within 0.5 of a degree of the set temp permanently. I have found my fish are far more relaxed and happy now too. So this was my reason for using the stc as after doing research I found that it is the cheapest decent controller out there and it’s easy to use .

 

Thanks, @PeterTKZN , I want to give this a go. Can you maybe send me a picture of how it is wired ect? Or maybe a hand-drawn diagram.? All the youtube videos I have watched of this is extremely confusing...

No not as far as I know . I think that is for guys who are using the unit in distilleries . Mine is not connected . As long as the heater circuit is done you good. Just remember to turn your heater to max setting.

 

My cooler isn't connected either.

There are 2 types of stc,'s the one has only one (heating/cooling) relay and the other 2(heating and cooling).
