chocolates are not the fastest growing cichlids, especially if you have oscars, nothing ime grows near as fast as an oscar, and everything else look almost retarded
@MariaS, At what stage were you able to sex your Chocolates? I have the 6 youngsters in my tank. And want to thin them down to a pair asap.
@Reedfish..... I cant say for sure that I have sexed them... I bought 3... At first all was ok then two were best mates and one started bulling the third one very badly I took the one that was being terrorised out and put him with my 2 Oscars and Severums an he is very happy there The other two remained together and love each other so..... I assumed that the problem was being 2 males I am not sure how old they are.. I will take some pictures of the 2 and the one I had to move.... maybe that can help you and you can see difference
I sometimes see 2 of my youngsters "squaring up" I guess those would be males. But they all look more or less the same, so after swimming around the tank among the others, have lost track of who us who
Chocolates are AWESOME fish - very friendly if you have them from small. Yours are beautiful, enjoy them . . .
My Uaru started picking at the Rays, and then the Chocolates really started attacking them. Had to remove both types unfortunately.

I saw Emerald cichlids at our LFS,do you guys know if they are the same as Chocolate cichlids?Unfortunately they do not have a scientific name, and they are still very small.
