How do you cycle your tank?

well im going to add all the hardy fish in the week, Danios and Endlers

 

I had a look into the past few threads on water and treatments… and the one that kept on popping into my head was, using herbal tea/rooibos in your tank. Will this not help when it comes to the cycle of a tank?

 

@Fub4r when you do water changes do you add a dechlor like Prime & stability?

I am also thinking of adding Stability on what changes

 

@jwalker I always use prime to remove the chlorine, etc then I add stability (but only dose for the amount of water I am adding) and If I am using RO then I also add trace elements.

Since doing things this way I have never had an issue getting a tank up and going from scratch.

 

cycle - from day 1 a few fish, plants, lights, no co2 and no ferts. Tea helps if you have stressed fish but I would not cycle with it unless you have a bare bottom and some good filtration.

It helps if the fish and plants are not fresh from the LFS but rather stock that you have raised. So they are less stressed and already somewhat conditioned to your water. I feed the fish immediately after they are added - then I break the normal pattern of daily feeding and stretch it - say twice in 3days - then once a day then twice daily after 10 days. Ferts 8 weeks after if needed .. but this all depends on tank size the bigger it is the easier I find the process above works OK for 3+ ft tanks smaller than that needs to be monitored and maybe have a few wc's
