I would also like to know: Is being egg bound genetic or is it a random anomaly?

You need to check the area where the buldge was. You mentioned it has a blood spot there - is the skin broken? This area needs to be monitored for secondary infections. Fungus or Bacteria can easily attack that area now.

As far as I know animals(birds), egg bound only happen on the first breeding.
It is, as if the opening is too small... :blink1:
Hope this will not happen again with her.
Keep us updated and Good luck!
    Gert.

For now you need to make sure the water quality is excellent and that you are feeding high quality foods and avoid stress. If an infection occurs, tell us and then we can recommend the appropriate treatment.
