Does yours actually puff or not. We have 2 Figure 8 Puffers and I cant get them to puff LOL. Have heard if you give them a fright they puff.... But mine just refuses. Gave the one such a fright one day it jumped clean out the tank. Now, everytime we clean the puffer tank, the big one jumps out LOL

Most puffers are 'jumpers'. Nope, mine doesn't puff up and I've never tried to make them puff either. It's actually supposed to be really bad for them - I read it somewhere recently - will try and refind the link and post it as it made for interesting reading.

Okay found some of the references.

    Puffing Up (http://www.tropicalfishexpert.co.uk/Puffers.html)

What makes the puffer so famous is, of course, its ability to inflate its body, increasing its apparent size to deter predators. Many people buy puffer fish because they are excited about this and hope to watch it happen on a regular basis. This is not a good idea. Puffing up is very stressful for the fish and can lead to health problems. It can also cause immediate damage if the puffer accidentally draws in air instead of water when inflating. The puffer will then have difficulty expelling air and will lose control of its buoyancy. For this reason, puffers should never be lifted out of the aquarium in a net, but should always be surrounded by water when moved.

The puffer simply fills its stomach with water. It's spine and internal organs will accomodate the new shape.

This is a self defence mechanism used to scare off predators and to force out its spines. If you have a puffer it's not recommended to induce this behaviour because it firstly it means the fish is scared and secondly it takes its toll on the fish's body to keep puffing up. Also if you have a puffer, ensure that it does not puff up out of water. Drawing in air instead of water is dangerous to a puffer.

Ace, that is a bit rough I would say. 16 MW of heaters means 53 333 heaters of 300 watts each. Something wrong in that calc.....

True, but then again customers like us should get shares given to us from Eishkom as well if you take into consideration how much we, as residential customers, pay them every month! I could almost pay for a bond on a small flat at this rate. LoL
