@Khalid, no I don't know why the dad died. He was still fine the previous day (or so I thought). I planned to do a water change the next day not knowing there were eggs because of the big piece of driftwood in the tank and I found him floating on top of the water with a black belly. He was'nt bloated or anything, just the black belly. He was a new addition and I only had him for about 3 weeks or so. Could be internal injury from a fight with a female twice his size and he killed this female. They were alone in a 3ft tank. I was so cheesed off because he killed my 12cm female and he was about 6cm. He took chunks out of her. I bought him originally because my current, very good dad has a crooked tail and some of his fry, say 3 to 4 out of 70 had crooked tails, so I needed to refresh my bloodlines. Well at least now I do have a new bloodline. I crossed him with one of the crooked tail male's female fry that shows no defects visually so there should'nt be any crooked tails unless it's a genetic thing. Time will tell. Males are fairly available here, females less so, so I'm looking for new females to strenghten my bloodline. I also bought two golden longfin's from @Pet Stop but they were still small at about 3-4cm. They are now about 4.5 to 5cm's already and I will cross them in a couple of months to my shortfin's. Can't tell the sex yet of the longfins, hope they are females!

    Hi all

Update on the new little orphan golden BN fry... They are all doing very well so far, I noticed 4 of them has bent tails, the dad was ferfect with no defects but the mom had a bent tail so it is genetic since her dad has a bent tail. The rest of the fry looks perfect so far. Here is a pic of them grasing on a piece of baby marrow.
