    Hi all

    Thanks for the nice comments.

@col182, thanks but don't think the wife will appreciate something fishy smelling in bed...lmga. I think it's just pure coincidence, I mean there is the male with 3 females...what is a man to do....lol.
@Khalid, it's just like you said "You lose some. You win some." I'm just so glad the tank is healthy again.

@Charles sorry to here about the betta fry, I had a nasty experience in December when I lost most of my best breeding males after my 3 weeks holliday. Just something small that you might consider...something that really works for me, and is actually a must for any breeder and that is a bear bottom tank, no gravel no plants, its the best way to keep your tanks clean @ all times, esspecially when it comes to fry, or like me keeping over 100 females @ a time in my 4 foot tank. I breed all my bettas in bear bottom as well, only 1 plastic bushy plant witch I remove after the fry is free swimming.

@HennieRoux, thanks man. Sorry to hear about the loss of the breeding males, thats a bad hit. All my breeding tanks are bear bottom with some hornwort floating plants in them, a heater, a sponge filter and a hiding place for the female which is removed as soon as I remove the female after spawning. Some of my other tanks does have medium sized gravel in them for plants mostly, not a big fan of plastic or fake plants, I prefer the real deal. Then on the other hand, Bristlenose Ancistris fry does not appreciate a bear bottom tank, they need a substrate again. In one of my 4ft tanks where the normal Ancistris bred, I have this huge piece of wood in that has a rather deep cravis in it, the male ducks in their every time I lift the lid, now for the death of me, do you think I can catch that male before he ducks in there, cause once he is in, you don't get him out...tried...failed... I want to put him with another female ancistris of mine in the 2ft betta growout tank, the female in here is loaded with eggs.

Does anybody that lives in the Pretoria area perhaps have some Blue eyed Ancistris? I saw them yesterday at Pet Stop, I just love them with their blue eyes. The ones at Pet Stop is to small to tell the sex yet, I would like to have a mature male and female.

    Hi all

At long last my Golden Bristlenose pair spawned again!!! Fry were born today and there are lots of them. This is the first spawn since June this year. I've also bought a BIG female, she is 12cm in length including cadual, without cadual she is about 10cm. Biggest female I've ever seen or owned. She is in my 4ft tank at the moment. My male is only about 6-7cm long, so I'm a bit sceptic to breed them in fear that the female might hurt him, she is twice his size. Will research some more before trying anything with them. Will post pics of them all soon.

    Hi Buddy ;)

At the size they landed only you might be able tell the difference - They are still small man, larger sizes would have been impossible to sell :(

    Hi all

Here they are moving to their new home - a 4ft grow-out tank. There are 64 of them and they are all from the same batch.

    Hi all

Had another spawn from a new male I bought about 3 weeks ago. This was with one of my first male's female fry from the first surprise spawn. She was still to small to spawn IMO but apparently not! I had them in a 2ft tank with some gravel, a piece of driftwood that I cut off a bigger piece which was still leaching a lot and some plants. The sad part in this story is that this new male died. Found him floating on top of the water between the plants. So I removed him and decided to move the other two females as well just in case and started to remove everything in the tank to clean everything. When I lifted the piece of wood out of the tank I noticed there were a ball of eggs on the gravel. Now I lifted the wood completely out of the water and it was on the side edge of the tank. I quickly looked under the wood... yup there were eggs to still attached to the wood. So I put the piece of wood back into the water as quick as I could. I was not expecting a spawn here since I thought the female was way to young and small. Anyway, so I had no idea when these eggs were laid or if they have been fertilized. I took a chance and put the eggs in a fry saver, that net type. I did a 40% WC and removed all the decor except fro the gravel. I directed the flow of the internal Cascade 300 filter with a spraybar directly to the fry saver net. I the added Methylene Blue to the water. This all happened on 09/01/13.

On 10/01/2013 the eggs hatched!! Over 70 little wrigglers hatched! I did a 20% WC today and removed the fry from the net and released them into the tank. The net fry saver is not very fry friendly. The fry seems to get stuck in the netting and behind the frame, hence I moved them out of there. Well so far so good. Will be doing daily 10% WC to get rid of the methylene blue and will add some activated charcoal back into the filter to help get rid of the meds. I also added some Prime and Stability according to size of the tank. I hope these little fellows make it. Will start to add some Baby Marrows by tommorow afternoon just in case.

    Hi all

Just a quick update on the "orphan" fry of 10/01/2013. They are doing very well, they found the baby marrow I put in the tank and they are all over it. I'm very relieved about this! The older fry are doing great as well in the 4ft grow-out tank. Everybody gets baby marrows and they are fighting for there fair share of it and there is plenty to go around. Will post some pics in a couple of days.
