Looking awesome! Just a nice trim now for some compact growth.

Suggestion to maybe at some Hygrophila Pinnafitida on some wood.

Hi All, Quick update on the tank

It's starting to grow in quite nicely, although I have let a lot of it get away from me. (to be honest some if it is a bit of a mess)

So what I'm starting to work on now is shaping the plants so there is clear distinction between them (not growing into each other) and making a call on what I like/don't like, so what to remove and what to replace with. There is still a lot of this to be done, but as it is I'm much happier with the right of the tank compared to the left. so we'll see how it goes.

Current stock is

• a few (7 or so) chili rasboras,
• 1 platinum halfbeak
• 8 oto's
• 6 Amano shrimp
• 5 24k shrimp, 3 berried (now 2 berried and many shrimplets swimming around)
• 3 nerite snails
• ever changing population of bladder snails

I still want to get some CDP's, but think I should wait a month or so to give the baby shrimp a chance.

Anyway let me know what you think, I haven't added anymore plants as of yet but did spot some Hygrophila Pinnafitida which @Lord Vader suggested on one of the online stores yesterday so am tempted, but would need to do a bit of removing first!

I just noticed the heater...is there space at the opposite end of the tank for it? That way, it would be hidden from sight.

 

Awesome tank Gio, are you planning on stocking a showpiece type fish? Or a school? Or keep as is?

Thanks, feeling good about it, but know I'm a long way off from the (current ) visual objective, but my initial goal, not knowing anything, was to plant lots and see what grows.
my work from home office has no window that has a view, so the tank serves both as a hobby and a bit of a visual escape when I need to be inside. It has worked wonders for both.

Thanks, it's unusual appearance is why I was interested. Now I just need to fit a lid to the tank as I'm not a fan of leaving such a large waterline gap, but I hear they are jumpers?

I would need to do a bit of rewiring , but will give this a shot.

Leaning towards a school, I am however having problems with the chili's , seems I can only keep 7 alive. The two times I've added them I've only had about a 50% survival rate. Drip acclimation over 2 hours, aquarium heated between 22 and 24.5. Ph between 6 and 7, kh historically a bit low which may have affected the first attempt, but this has since stabilised. I'm still looking to add some CDP's but want my shrimp population to increase a bit first (currently have 6 adults in total 2 berried and another one which has recently produced so don't want to turn them into food just yet)

 

Turns out I have many more shrimp than expected, still have 3 berried and at last count about 40 babies.

Think I'm going to bite the bullet and stock with ember tetras and CPDs.

Will buy the tetras first:
It's a 200l tank. Should I be looking at 10, 15 or 20 tetras?

 

In a 200L tank I'd say 20 minimum. You could even do like 50 quite easily.

 

Order in for 25 tetras. Will see how that goes. Still keen on adding some CPDs afterwards.

 

This is scaring me because i want to do tetras for my 600liter tank....

 

Go with 40/50 I'd suggest
