I was just thinking that... When I initially started I wanted to just do a Betta. Maybe just do the community thing on my 3ft tank.

Are you saying the fish I got from Pet world in fourways are "modified"?

Correct. They get a tatoo, as we would. If they survive the initial shock and potential infection. They will loose the color over time.

Don't boikot them yet. Take the fish back to them and tell them why you are returning the fish. It might be that they don't even know that it isn't natural. Then you can tell them that if you see them stocking these fish again you will boikot them, and as many people as you can tell about it. Unfortunately that is the only way they will learn and react to it.

No idea. But I will let you know in a few weeks once quarantine is over :D. What I am really hoping for is once quarantine is over and I move them I will leave the tank for about 10 days afterwards. Perhaps fry will start appearing

Nope. Even pygmy gouramis beat each other in a tank that size, they aren't too easy on each other :(

Do you have any other tanks? Then use the 30 L as a breeder. If you dont have any other tanks get some and still use the 30 L as a breeder :p

I have a 3ft that will get up and running once this one is settled. This is just a test run for a Walstad Method tank. If I can make this work the 3ft should be easier.

So considering all the info so far it seems the best option considering tank size will be to go with just a Betta, lean and easy... I hope, oh and some snails. Not a massive bio-load so will need to monitor plant nutrition, might need to dose water column.

How important is quarantine stage? I don't have a small tank I can use for that purpose?

If you are adding a fish to a fishless tank then that is your quarantine tank. If you have a display tank with fish already in it then its important to quarantine any new fish as they may have disease/parasites that a) you dont want your other fish getting and b) are easier to deal with in a small quarantine tank rather than in a larger display tank.

IMO quarantining is very important. If you dont its like Russian roulette. Sooner or later you will end up with a problem and then you will regret not quarantining.

I hear you. Then I will maybe make or get an additional small tank at some stage, cycle it and make that the quarantine tank for the upcoming 3ft and any future tanks. I really want to keep this tank as is.

The 3ft will be easier. Bigger water volume helps with stability. When something goes wrong in the 30 L it can go bad very quickly

And you can put more fish and plants in a 3ft tank. Especially if you are looking at microfish.
