Went looking for some 5730 silicone strips.

Th 5630's on 36 degrees is still going strong - true they are a bit yellow now but I am still happy with them.

I decided to raid my stock of 5630's and do two 1.18m lengths.

    [IMG][IMG]

This means I will be replacing the single LED 220V tube (top) with 2x5630 strings (Showing one).

Used some PVC ducting to make clamps that would hold the H bar under the bracing glass.

Happy with the result. Light coverage is back and middle leaving a nice shadow on the front substrate.

    Probably my imagination ...

Sings seem to be a bit greener with the better light spread.

Will be adding some OC+ maybe two tabs tonight.

Got a new mount for the camera ...

So had to shoot a video - even if it was originally upside down.

So after that mini fail I had on the back string of LED's

I suspect a short in the tracks and then some arcing and burn ....

Did the cut on the weekend - allowed all to dry out before switching on again.

Switched on this morning all good. Good thing this was at the end of the string, did not bother to add another bit back, well lets see.

    Hi Ferdie,

Have you heard of 4014 LED strips ? Apparently they are brighter than 5630.

4014' yes seen them. ... yeah those are smaller and super dense ... I am just not sure of the heat profile but will see if I can find some info.

Lynsie I am running a few smaller 12volt units - will probably upgrade to bigger ones in the future - but have been contemplating using computer supplies, those are typically way cheaper than so called "dedicate" PSU for security systems that use the 12 volt supplies.

    I'm running a 4014 for a trial/test from a PC's 12v molex output and it appears to be 100%.

It seems that the LUX reading that I get from the 4014 is about 4x more than that of the 5630.

Bear in mind the 5630 i have had seen better days. It have a lot of milage.

Yeah the PC PSU seems to be the way to go ... esp since it has a fan typically and can deal better with the heat than static cooling with hi humidity.

Pic of the 4014 strip / string and source ... will be keen to get my paws on some esp if one gets a +50% better performance per watt of energy consumed.

    As requested,

I'll be using two strips each over my low tech breeding setups.

    Will see how it go.

ah yes ... think I played a bit with some of these this morning. 144 LED's vs 72 for the 5630's

from a casual observation, they seemed brighter - might be more light sources and also less blue than the 5630 strips.

R95 for the alu strip with holder and R60 for the naked strip. 1m each ... cloud not find any of the guys that had the 5m reels with these, that would be nice.

Temp wise it felt very similar so you should be good.

Just watch for condensation - water kills these LED over time.

I actually think these will be better suited for planted tanks, not only the increased light but also the more yellow / red not as Arctic white as some of the others.

Please keep us posted - I did not get any - was hunting for powerbanks, but could not find what I wanted either eish, bad day at china mall when you walk away with nothing.

    Sorry for highjacking your thread.

    Will keep you posted.

I mounted the two strips quite a distance above the water so that its save against condesation.

I think for high tech with prez co2 one can even go for 4x 4014 strips and mount it 20cm above the water so that there is no condensation risk.

But i'll have to grab another old pc psu from work tomorrow as the current one died on me shortly after i completed the installation today. Lol.
