Thanks .. the duckweed has made for too much cover and most plants are stretching... this tank has had no heater this winter - just room ambient temperature, so pleased with the limited growth under these conditions.

Love the way it looks... Im surprised how well it does with no heater...

Were the guppies in there all winter with no heater too and if so.. how cold did the tank go?

Sorry for all the questions.. just really curious

Above the room temperature - it is fair to say that because I was not doing any WC's the tank was never under the room temperature, typically it is a degree or two above the room temperature at the lowest point. Yeah all guppies etc was in the tank. They get very slow when things get cold but if the stock is healthy and the water quality stays OK they can go down to 14 before they really battle. Trick is to not have fast temp swings when one recovers.

One can clearly see we are heading for warmer weather ;-) hence the WC today.

    Thanks Ferdie

Didn't think they would survive at such low temps....

So the trick with the low temps .. it needs to happen naturally over a few days of acclimatization and then not be sustained flat for a long time. They need some time to either adjust or die. I would not recommend WC during this low temp period since the change in water parameters - more than just temp shock will not be good.

Nice thing about allowing them to almost hibernate it means less frequent drops and slower growth - everything slows way down. Also try not to have a draft on the tank ... this will cool things down to fast.

For me it is to track progress or regression ... oh and the memory is not as sharp as it once was ... or is that just cluttered more now than before?
