I agree with Singu that they may be turquoise or perhaps red turquoise, but the bigger fish is a snakeskin as it has more than 9 bars. The other creamy reddish fishes are pale pidgeon bloods which because of the pidgeon blood mutation can't show stress bars and there is perhaps one blue diamond which is also showing darker colour, but he can't show stress bars either, but he is also not happy.

And azure, I agree about the kids bashing tanks, my kids were taught that this was out from the word go and they knew that one did not do that. However, I fear that the level of discipline that many parents have nowadays is also where the problem lies. If they tell their kids not to bash, the first reaction of the kids is to bash more. Let us however not deviate this thread into this direction, it could be long and tedious.....

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

    Hi Trevor and Rudi
The Sam's Aquarium Tank that started this thread owes it's continued existance to you two in large measure.
For the rest of you - Trevor even - read my lips - pays a hand picked caretaker person at the shop to perform routine tasks eg water changing with RO water - even Trevor agrees this is just a little on the bizarre side....
Last "gardening exercise" we cut out almost one kilogram of excess plant material - a good portion of the original cutting came from Trevor's own planted aquarium - now that is a genuine work of art - go on Trevor show this mob some pictures of your planted aquarium Bud!!!!. There is also some other "phantom person" who lurks around from time to time, dropping in the odd exotic - one of which none of us even know the name of!! (neither the phantom nor the plant)
As far as children and this Discus tank are concerned - quite correct Dirk the stress signs are well evident and appropriate!! Even Ebrahim's own son Abdull MuEez gives the front glass a good flat handed clap from time to time - then I go for therapy. Some of the folk who venture into Sam's Aqarium in Bergvliet really don't know much/anything about fish keeping at all so in all fairness are probably unaware of what NOT to do - even some who would have you believe they know everything there is to know will wax lyrical about stuff they do which is.... nowhere on the menu...
The Tank's plant growth is supported by CO2 and SeaChem Excell in addition to Comprehensive and Iron supplimentations bi-weekly. The Discus are juveniles - all but two are less than 5 months old, the metallic blue is +/- 14 months and there is an "old chap" which was a rescue from a customer's broken tank during December. I estimate it to be 4 years old. The balance of fish are Corydoras +/- 20 (various), Cardinal tetras +/- 100, Rummy nose +/- 70 and one Clown Pleco - oh yes - there are some fresh water shrimps too, but you might sit for a while before you see any of them.
It is safe to say that Sam is doing something right when he has a handfull of customers who give up ther personal time to attend to his Planted Discus Aquarium - not actually looking for anything in return - just because they love the plants or the Discus or both....... who knew??

@f-fish have you seen the planted tank at north gate is does not get allot of maintenance but it is not bad I visted there a couple of time's before I saw it because its not with all the other fishy stuff.

It would be nice if more places had a decent planted tank and they could show you that the plants that they are selkling are actually growing in there tank and they will sell more "correct" plants in the beginning I almost give up real plants because of all the non aquatic plants that they eagerly sold me.

Must admit it is not one of my favourite shops - but yes, I have seen it - but I always catch it when it has a BBA attack it would seem.

Welcome to the forum Peter.. enjoy !

Don't really follow bud, can I take it you are talking about a shop and tank north of the orange, as surprisingly the discus tank at Sams, south of the Orange, has had remarkably little algae since it was set up a year or so back, apart from clad that was planted on some of the mopane..

Sorry bru - I'm not on your page. I thought you were refering to the shop which has the aquarium this thread is about????
It does have a little BBA on the very top of the mopane wood in the centre of the tank - in fact there is a strange fight between some pretty green algae and the BBA - so one week it's PGA and the next it's BBA????? I think there's a Nitrate problem to look into ??

At Trevor Pleco - thanks Buddy.

Sorry bru - I went back to the bottom of page three to check.
You were refering to the contribution from JP01 - about a tank "way North of the Orange"
Had me going for a second there about the BBA :wondering:
