    It's worth the time to do 3 coats, my shelf was properly varnished and has suffered no damage in 3 years

    For 2 stands 1l will be plenty. Just remember to sand between coats and do atleast 3. My one wood stand is 5mm away from the water on top and no issues.

    This was about 5coats on 150ml

    Thanks, I had a quick look on the builders website and its cheaper than paint and I see there is a dark stain available. This was great !! help thanks @MariaS , @Hendre , @Barry Roux :thumbup:
