Fish room finally in sight.

Finally done with the planting.

Final plant list:

Rotala h'ra / green - background
Hygrophila Coryombrosa (giant hygro) - background

Schismatoglottis prietoi - hardscape (this will be attached as soon as the dragon rock is out)

I'll trim the rotalas down in a week or so after they have settled. As for the star grass, I hope they survive. The pot I got didn't look to well.

 

Planting that densely, it can do nothing but thrive ... very nicely done.

I finally got to build the second 3 foot tank stand over the weekend. Once I have the time I'll paint it and start setting up the 4th tank.



There's still quite a lot that needs to be done before I can even touch one of the 4 foot tanks.

However, I did order African rope fish yesterday, though I told the pet shop I'll only need it in about 6 months. These guys will obviously go into a 4 foot tank.

The idea for this tank is mainly African, so I will be adding Congo tetras for sure!! As for the plants I was thinking bolbitis, crinum nantans and what ever else you guys can think that's primarily found in Africa

As for my current tanks. I'll create tank journals for each one of them at a later stage. There's still some changes being made and the 150 liter tank needs to be emptied so I can move it into place.

 

Got them from Timbercity. Paid around R148 for 6.6m.

Ok, I'm actually just trying to get all the stands built. Once all that is done I can slowly move on with setting up the tanks.

I also want to take time on stocking ideas. Don't jusr want to end up with random fish in all the tanks.

 

The idea of a region for each tank is pretty cool, give you more of a variety of fish too keep

 

What other kinds of African fish would work with the rope fish and Congo tetra?

 

I found the cuckoo catfish and the freshwater butterfly fish. Seen these before but not keen on them.

There's the distichodus as well which looks quite interesting. Will give the tank some colour

Yeah problem is they grow to a foot long so they won't work for a 1.2m tank. I should buy @Whoknows 2.4m stand

 

Thanks, I need to keep in mind whats available and what my LFS can source. If I'm correct, the rope fish / reed fish is also not available right through the year.

 

I should be able then to get it once needed. The lfs told me that the ones they get in are caught from the wild and not bred at fish farms. The other lfs in town has one that's around 10 - 15cm. I can always get it and keep it in my 150l tank, just means that I will have to get the 4 foot setup very quickly.
