Fish getting smaller?

LFS got them between R8 - R15

 

I had a look around some of the LFS in Nelspruit. You guys are right. The fish that are available are extremely small. In all honesty most of these fish are too small to even put into my tank...

i did see some very nice looking Crown tail Betta's in one of the shops...

 

Yes @Vis , not all of them, only the very old ones I have 1-2 years

 

Let's face it, we're being screwed by the fish farms and breeders. They are probably doubling their profits by selling fry. They get to sell all of the weak fish that would otherwise have died in their overcrowded conditions. Less food, labour, electricity, fatalities and double the fish turnover makes good business, if a little unscrupulous, sense.

I don't buy the justification that I can get to have the fish in my tank for longer. The growth and fatality rate at that age is very high. I reckon another 6-8 weeks would see much stronger fish reach our shops. not much we can do about it though. I bet the bulk of fish get sold to beginners who don't know the difference between fry and a mature fish.
