It was late, i felt like experimenting, it seemed like a good idea at the time, ...whatever:D

actually i tested it that way, to see if just putting it infront of the powerhead will cause so lift, which it did, cause i want to utilise that corner thingus to put peatmoss in, help it soften the water, more like what you'd actually find in tha biotope where most terta come from, i was hoping it'd lower the ph too.
Seeing as it worked, i'll be using it that way now, (i dont want to stick the airpump on it as its very annoying and noisy

They are yes. i especially like that last one, the rosy red underside you'll see when its on the front pane. the others look a bit weird, at first when i saw them i thought "what the hell is that" cuz you only see that pale translucent belly:)

    Thanks,
Today i did a water change, 30%, and gravel vac'd all the remaining crud from the decomposed fish food or whatever it was that got in the sand at the fishless-cycle start, then topped the tank up

Then i hooked up my airpump to the outlet nozzle of my new powerhead, and it was as good as a bubble curtain, looks nice, and no noisy sound.

Then i filled the corner filter unit full of peatmoss, some that had been in the HOB before i removed it, was already wet soaked, so that got packed in the bottom, then i added soem dry moss, then topped the filter vent slits with filterwool, and that with some of the coarser blue nylon filterwool. Hooked that up the another valve from the air pump and set the air volume so the bubbles come out in a steady stream, no noisy blub-blub-blub sound.

    >Then i headed on down to petstop and bought my 10 neons, got one more "pasela" the lady told me :) so, eleven in all

    >Then i decided to go to Pet Masters, and get a few leopard danios, but alas, they were all gone, so, i chose glowlights instead :D

Got home, acclimatised and released the fishies, took about 50 min in all, then finnally they were swimmin away, goin up and down, up and down the length of the tank, all of them are schooling together, which is quite nice to see

The neons looked (alarmingly) pale in their little bag, and when they first got in the tank, dunno if i imagined it though, but anyway, now they look fine, dark heads, blue stripe all blue-ish and red stripe all reddish... all is right with the world.

The glowlights downs have a strikingly red colour like i saw a photo of in my practical aqaurium file, but they're more pinkish of sorts.

Anyway, they are happily goin up and down and around the tank at present. quick little buggers, hard to take a photo.

I also got that piece of wood with the java moss on it, its not covered in it, but the moss has attached to it, i placed it nead another piece of wood it might cover...

My other handfull is still floating in the bottom tank, tied to a bit of floating wood

Looking good Ferryman Losing one or two neons out of a bunch is not uncommon..

Couple of weeks ago we bought 20 rummynose and 30 grren neons, put them in QT - in 2 days all the green neons died - all the rummynose survived - go figure

Good job ... I hope you have a non-return valve on your air pump hose .. or is the air pump above the water level? You do not want a SMS saying that you lost all your fish because your tank drained out during a power outage ...

BTW always bad idea to buy fish on a Friday (nothing to do with religion) most LFS's get stock on Thursday / Friday for the weekend rush ... get to know your LFS's delivery schedule - then take the risk later ... in JHB very few LFS's QT the fish and will sell it to you while it is still in the delivery bag :mad:

still 10 neons and 13 glowlights.
All hapily swimming in the bubbles and stream, up-down-side to side repeat

    hope so...
Next week there might be more in-mates:)
I'll need the money from this and next weekend's work first though

So, gimme uhhh, 10 days, i think

And, sometime in the future i might recieve some sailfin mollies, if they survive and grow :) looking forward to those, _ before you guys tell me about the salt, i know, but these aparently have been born and raised in freshwater :)

I wanna find some cories though, scavengers for the food the tetra's don't get at, the dont eat off the floor, little ungrateful buggers :)

And i need an alge eater or two, not a huge pleco though :( they get too ginormus

Dunno what else i might get as of yet

Cories are a must indeed, i especially want peppered catfish, Corydoras paleatus

and my tank is covered with glass thanks, so i'm set for jumping fish:)The mollies are from a member on here, they are as i said, in the future, when they B growed up sum more, they're still tiny fishies. Recent spawn:)

i'll look into some algea eaters, its just for some white, slight slimy algae forming on some wood in the tank, it likes forming on the wood i suppose, as i keep washing it, and it comes back, not a problem yet though, will be a good food source

    Okay.
Update, no other fishy died since Saturday.
    So only one loss.

Since then i've been counting them like a paranoid crazy person.

A few hours ago i noticed some of my tetras in both types, have a rather fat belly (admittedly this was after i fed them, cause that's when i was ogling them) and i noticed some have a bit of a lumpy fat belly rather than it being just a smooth round curve. So i went googling lumpy fat belly tetra etc, and then got a bunch of results with those words scattered around on the page, most of them dealing with neon tetra disease, which of course being parpanoid, is what i suspected them of having

So back to the tank i went, looking for bent backs, fish who don't school, fin rot, white lumps in the colour line and all round lethargic behaviour, and of course i could spot lumpy fat bellys, but the lumps arent in the colourline, and arent turning white from necrosis, this might just be a full fed/overfed fishy.

I also spotted 1 (of the 23) fishies had a tiny corner 90 degree bit missing on his tail fin, top corner (which could probably just be a fin nipped fishy, its not frayed or white or anything, still clear, like all the other)

I also noticed one or two fishies had a definate little white spot on a tail fin and the other on the tail somewhere. just one white spot randomly placed. so of course i was decidedly sure they now have white spot too, then i started thinking, hey, when they breathe and the gills open up, and i look INSIDE behind the gills, it looks red... so yeah, i was then assured that they have ammonia or nitrite poisoning, even though the tank was cycled for three weeks, and had about three 20-40% water changes or top-ups (good gravel vac and water change of 30% or so was had on thursday, before i bought the fishies...)

I'm paranoid as hell i know, and will probably be expecting the tank to explode as well in the next few hours, rational new fishy owner that i am...

Soooo, any of you sane people wanna comment? recomend a bong and some sitar music, a chill pill or a nice cheeseburger, lol, from stuff mentioned above, anyone think there's any legitimate worry in it all?

to answer some probable questions, the fish are all scholling, there's one that seems to have fallen in love with the front pane or his reflection though, that swims up and down the glass the whole time, thin tetras are chasing around some fat (some of them lumpy) tetras playfully, the fish are exploring the whole tank, and not just floating near the top or bottom tank, all are eating when i feeed them.

I feed tropical flakes by Marltons at the moment, havent broken the seal on the TetraPrima stuff yet.

er, what else might be asked, oh
Water parameters, no idea, have no kit yet, will probably only get one sometime in the week

    Er, more info?

Ferryman, what size are the neon's?
because the mollies are almost a cm long now so if you can give me a size I can organize that you can get the mollies more or less at the same size.

they're about 2cm, with some fatties and some thinnies :)
would the 1cm mollies have any trouble living with 2cm tetra?

there are bio-sponges over the HOB intakes, so the chances of them being sucked up are none, at that size, and they definately wont fit a tetra mouth :)

Well, no tank explosion today, no fishies died of incurable diseases, so paranoia subsided for the day.

i am wondering about that single white spot on the fins of those two neons, its not spreading ....yet, and i have added a teaspoon coarse salt per 20 liters already, when i readied the tank for the fishies... should i do something more?

Yeah ferry, now is the time to enjoy your fish. I bought 10 Black neons yesterday, they all look great and extremely happy, I must admit, I was also nervous as hell!
They're greedy buggers though, they love bloodworm, oh nom nom!
