    happily there are none.

Should i just rinse the stuff out to get it waterlogged, and stick some in a stocking, add to filter and see what happens?
(luckily no fish yet, no money... so i can experiment)

Ferryman how badly did you want that male betta to be in your tank? I ask because quite a few of the other fish you list, such as the tetras and guppies, are known fin nippers. Your betta male will most likely have permanently shredded fins if you put him in a tank with the fish you were thinking of....

i thought of putting him in a betta hang on tank thing, maybe a "guppy breeding thing" i see they're cheaper, hang on, and you can remove the middle seperator

Personally I think those 'betta hang on tanks' are cruel, but that is a matter of opinion, likewise using the guppy breeding tank. It's way too small and you won't get the full beauty of the betta in those little itty bitty things - personal opinion though.

So before we can recommend other fish, we would first need to know whether there will be a male betta in there or not.....

Sigh. Know what. I'll make me a little betta male and harem tank. From the glass panes i'm using as my glasstop, slojo donated a pane big enough to finish my real sliders idea.

Okay. So, no male betta now. . I'll have mts sort it out at some point. Thinkin somewhere next year+

I second that... will ONLY by a betta from a LPS if they put them into their tanks AND NOT in a small jam jar on the counter!!! They are absolutely BEAUTIFUL fish when they are in a decent sized tank and given the freedom to swim around and show off their glory.

^as i said, no betta, i really want some at some stage, i had a betta in my old community tank, no fin nippers though, so i know how beautiful they can be, so, i'll get a small, well greened tankie all for it/them later on

The only place where I've seen Bettas treated to their own tank is at Exclusive Pets in Centurion, close to the mall. They put them in the display tanks with other fish, so they're not stuck in a jar somewhere.

Alternatively, I've seen some really good looking Bettas at Pet City in Montana Crossings (kept in a tank with lots of compartments), but they're by far the cleanest and nicest shop I've been to anyway.

It gives me something to do, what can i say, i seperated some plants (lol, the vallis), and did cuttings an other (the unmentionables)

Its a bit more green, added a piece of driftwood in front of the cascade intake

btw, something funnny i noticed, some of my vallis (normal, straight leaves) are growing out new leaves that are becoming corkscrewed...

Weird, all the old leaves are straight

see the middle planted vallis, those short new leaves are spiraling

no, its still there, looks like the tank has dust that settled on all the surfaces, so its teeny tiny and all over, its either some fungussy thing or algae. i guess its a plant-ish organism

I'll get an algea eater or cories or such in there when i can buy some fish, see if they'll munch it away

Some mollies might even do the trick, they ate all the algae in my little tank and even chowed on some of the cabomba before I threw it out. They're also a common "cycling fish", although it's pretty cruel to buy fish to sacrifice to the cycling of a tank.
