Hey Envirobro, I've also found that I lose a bit of saturation on my posts, so I take that into account when I do my editing and end up boosting a few things to make up for it. Your pics are still excellent though!

@JvH Hey thanks a lot :) I find it strange that the images would be desaturated though... What good reason would there be for it to happen.

My cichlids are growing quickly and the colours are coming out nicely. Sorry for the scratches...

@MariaS That Salvini is a female and so far she is very chilled. The Green Severum and Jack Dempsey are cheeky but no serious fighting as of yet. I have tried to create as many obstacles and potential territories to reduce aggression but it's still early days... time will tell.

Thanks @Discusnut They are definitely some of the best species that I have kept personality and colour wise.

Some nice fish, but not sure how long it will last as you have aggressive and territorial fish in the mix. Salvini's are lovely fish but when him and the Golden Saum start you are going to end up with casualties. Just my 2cents.

@bradbury Thanks, yeah I expected the aggression. Six months later and they are finally starting to become quite territorial and I will have to start selecting which I'm going to keep and which I will have to sell. So far the GT is actually the least aggressive and the JD is the most aggressive. The Salvini occasionally challenges the Severums but doesn't seem to be too bad. The Oscar is so much bigger than all the others, they grow so fast! No major fights yet and no casualties but I don't want to push my luck.

That's the thing with setting up a SA Cichlid community. It's a bit of a juggling act. You have to swap fish around a little until you fin the combination that works.

And with cichlids it can be up to the individuals themselves. So what may work for one fish keeper, doesn't work for someone else.

Yeah it was the same with my Malawis @Reedfish. I think that is part of the 'fun' when keeping your more advanced species, you have to do a lot of research, planning and then observation to try achieve a balanced community of cichlids. As you say, each fish has it's own temperament and for me, the GT which I expected to be one of the most aggressive fish is actually the most relaxed. However they are all still growing and things will probably change as they reach sexual maturity. I only have one of each species so there should be less territorial competition in theory but we'll see.

They all looking stunning @EnvironmentalBro ...

Having only one of each species does tend to ease the agressiveness but as has been said it all depends on the individual fish's character as well
I have found the oscar if one only is not too bad... Green terror we had to eventually sell yet the red terror was fine
The salvini... well... that's another one that's luck of the draw..
I have also found that Size of tank also plays a role..
But as you say... time will tell

    Thanks @MariaS :)

I scaped my Paludarium to maximise potential territories and I have provided lots of hiding places so that none of the fish are able to be bullied very easliy. That being said, my tank is certainly not big enough to house all 7 of the aggressive cichlid species once they reach adulthood. I knew that from the beginning but I have loved watching the juv. get their colours and observing the different interactions. It is also interesting to see which fish the guests find most interesting and it is usually the Oscar (probably because of its size). All the fish are very healthy and they know me quite well and will come out to the front in full view when I'm there but tend to be shy around other people. I also have two big Synodontis in there that come out for feeding. It's a very cool mix of fish but I am going to have to choose which I'm going to keep soon...

I know your tank is very well scaped @EnvironmentalBro and has lots of hiding places.... been following your tank cause i really like it!!!

And I realize you know what the outcome is likely to be... was just sharing my experiences with some of the fish
We have als had to experiment with various fishes because of the Aromanas and stingrays until we found a happy medium....
Sometimes you try something thinking its not going to work and to your amazement it works..sometimes you think its going to be ok and its a disaster..
    I think they like kids!!!

Thanks @MariaS That's awesome, I have not kept stingrays or Arowana but one day I'll have a big enough tank to try them out :) They like kids??
