I generally find that people who can operate a forum competently, are generally efficient and thus more than likely good workers who can multitask and have time to sit on forums because they do their jobs well.

The Facebook people, not that bunch is useless :)

I also did my occasional peep at what's going on on the forums and other internet areas I frequent & change the page when the boss enters.... but... now... with me retiring in October I have one project left to do which would take me about another week to do.... (so much time so little to do).... I do not even mind when he walks into the office & checks my screen when I'm not busy....

I also notice that this trend is very apparent over weekends.... when you'd expect it to be busy on the forum.... it is relatively quiet.... I just wonder how much work gets done during the week??.....

work from home most of the week , have to go in maybe two or three times, so at home most of the time, inet is part of the package atm. for advertising and email etc. i tend to go out later in the afternoon , when you guys are working, you never get a lunch break or day off , so i have to run around from 3pm - 630 or 7pm . and random times on weekends. Dont bosses understand if you want to move house you have to see a new house?
that said the office bound staff tend to sit on fb and youtube most of the time when i am there. used to be in a different position and found it better for me to finalise files after everyone left. used to be maybe a week a month of leaving after 730pm.

My boss takes the view that as long as the work gets done, the odd 5 minutes on the internet here and there is fine.
So I have a peak at the forum now and then.

My colleague over the desk from me.......some of the websites she visits have been blocked.

When I was at university, somebody once told me the following. Doesn't only apply to exam technique. I apply it at work too.

It's called the 80-20 rule. 80% of the work in 20% of the time.
So if you get most of the work done as quickly as possible, that gives you some "flexi" time at the end.

    @SloMo.00.

    Indeed I do!

If you come in under budget, the boss can hardly get annoyed that you are chatting about your beloved fishies for 10 mins. :smokin:

Heehee.... I made this post almost 2 years ago... and I guess I have motivated my boss enough.I work most mornings from home until around 10h00. Then I go on my site inspections, site meetings, supplier meetings... basically anything needed to be done "out the office" and then back home by 3... working. And I have to agree with reedfish 100% on the 80:20 rule. You will be HORRIBLY surprised how much work you can do if you are not distracted, and more importantly, not trying to stretch the work out over a long period of time. What I do in a few hours working at home I couldn't get done in a week at the office.

Am I the only one wondering what kind of sites this colleague visits? :D

@Rory.....you don't even want to know. :handkiss:
But this is another issue entirely

I could never work from home.
Too many distractions. The fish for one.
And my kids would never leave me alone to get on with what I have to do.

I like the fact that I leave home, come to the office, and at the end of the day, go back home, hopefully leaving my work behind me.

I like this too. I used to work from home and you just always have this feeling that at whatever time your boss just might call and ask for something etc. Even during working hours at home it's like can't go out unless it's quick/during lunch or even go away from the pc too long etc.
