Tank is ready!!! Yay Going to collect tomorrow

Decided to paint the entire thing black....

    Also got a stand made 1200(l) x 500(w) x 700(h)

    Will post pics tomorrow night...7pm.

    To round off costs

    R230.00 for wood
R180.00 for glue and screws (200+-)
R225.00 for 2k paint (used about 400ml from the 2l)
R300.00 for glass + R150 for installation (Plain marine silicone for inside, black for around)
    R395.00 for stand painted black

    Total of R1330.00

If i had to build the same size tank again it would cost me R680.00 exclude stand, incl glass installation as i still have plenty 2k paint, nails and glue.

Basically and the end of the day i don't care about the price. Once its 100% complete i will be happy.

At least i can now say iv done this and next time will go MUCH bigger.

I haven't yet made a filter for this tank, not going to yet. Need to make sure it can hold water then get the sump, lights, heaters ect......

Why i do this???? I blame TASA....for making my life more relaxing lol!

This is a bit weird to me :)

Most people build wooden boats to keep water and fish out and you build wooden things to keep water and fish in :)

    Nice job anyway Kendall

    Lol nice one @Vis

Guys....the worst part is i haven't even seen the tank since Friday! Picking it up tonight.

After i finish the outside (sanding) and the hood the silicone should be dry +- the weekend, then a half test full

Well whats the cost of a 1200 x 500 x 600 glass tank? And you more than likely going to have to go 10mm

I think wood will be cheaper, if done right. Some are against this way but thats because they have either done it wrong or not at all.

And wood is a better finish imo

Oh yeah and the bigger you go with wood the cheaper it will work out

I like it, but what are you going to do with the wood?
Cover it in the 2k paint as well?

It already is, the inside. Thats what seals it.

If you talking about the outside then yes aswell

Silicone has been drying for about 24h. Going to start again with the test full. Thankfully i was using a bucket and noticed the leak as it started....no wood damage

Test full 2: Got 1/4 and discovered a leak...*sigh* At least its not damaging the wood. Have applied silicone where i believe its leaking....

The main reason why it is leaking is because i never used1 solid piece for the front. Iv it leaks again im going to strip the glass out and redo the front....sigh again!

Same point where it leaked in the last test full, yet this time no leaks
    [IMG]

Half way point, left it for about 30min
    [IMG]

    Almost to the top...no leaks!!!

About 5 min later the unexpected happened....pics follow! I got my GF to grab the tank while i grab the camera lol

[IMG]The weight of tank was to much for the grass. Luckly all went well. Tank just needs some final touch ups then complete!!!!
