Hahahaha thats why i stopped asking questions. Some of the stares you get from people makes me feel stupid and then trying to explain to them why you asked the question makes it even worse.

So if i want to know something, i go read up and spend alot of time researching and experimenting with stuff to check whats working and whats not, thats the only way i can learn something.

I don't really care most people think I'm crazy anyway. Gave up trying to act normal a long time ago.

I love the way some people look at you when you start gathering moss near their shower drain or what ever lol. My friend have learned to just go with the flow. This morning she told me about a weed she saw that she hasn't seen before and told me to have a look just incasecI want some before the gardener removes lol. I'm 38 and will sit on the floor watching tv in the evenings doing what ever new project I have in mind. The dry fretz sounds interesting should have a look into it

 

For iron you can always just buy iron chalate powder, i use it and its fantastic

Now thats the thing im researching...what is the chelate used in the powder?

Edta chelate - is more available to plants at a ph lower than 6.3 and it doesn't break down fast.

Ferrous gluconate - its more of a organic chelate , it breaks down fast in high light but is more available to plants...btw seachem iron uses ferrous gluconate

Dtpa chelate - is more available to plants at a ph lower than 7.4 and is more of a steady release of iron. To me this sounds to be the best option for iron dosing in a tank...i dont know if im making this more complex than it should be.

I just want to give my plants the best nutrients so they can grow nice and green/red. For a tank with a ph of 6, edta theoretically will be fine...but what if your ph is 7 and you dose edta fe??? This is something i want to experiment with...if only i can get 3 small tanks and some dtpa chelated iron and the space to do the experiment.

Dis dtpa my ph is about 7.5 works just fine i see no rust in my tank from oxidation of the iron chalate so i think its fine

You can try experimenting with different brands i believe some are iron(III) gluconate a

Where did you get the dtpa? Im always checking but it seems the places here only stock edta 13% iron chelate.

I have microbe-lift iron its also ferrous gluconate and it seems to be working better than my csm+b.

Yoh, you guys want to throw in a lot of different stuff, formulas and potions into your tanks.

All you need is a good micro nutrient like scape or flourish and macro nutrient as in KH2PO4 for phosphates and KNO3 for nitrates........nothing more!

the addition of CO2 or liquid CO2 as in Excel or Scape carbon is always welcome

If you really have too, and have very soft water adding a little crushed coral will help to buffer GH and KH

 

Hahaha thing is i was struggling to get my red plants red...they were more brown than red...that ignited the idea for iron dosing and light intensity/spectrum.

Flourish also use ferrous gluconate for iron and i must say that i have seen improvement in my plants with dosing ferrous gluconate so flourish will definitely be a good choice for micros.
