Here is a tip or two from what I have learned during this year's challenge :
Get microworms, it really helps with fry growth and is not a big hassle as brine shrimp.
Get a tank or better a tub or two outside were you can put all the extras.
Find someone or better a Petstop to take the fish you will normally cull.
Have a plan before hand, winging it can be fun but will take you a lot longer.
Only put males with females that you want to cross otherwise it's all over the place. I never had more then one male with my choice of females.
Keep some sort of record, foto's, on the forum etc as it can get confusing at times.
Your first fry never looks like what you expected, the second cross gives you something closer to what you want.

The certificate seems like a good idea. Maybe we can have it like the guppy competions overseas even breaking them into categories according to colour etc.

Will also need a lab and jellyfish DNA. :)

You can start now and a year from now be closer to that goal then not doing it at all.

A year is short for creating something new but you can get close and continue next year.

    Hi Guys

Here area the Rules "guidelines" for the new challenge starting 1 Decmeber 2016

    1. Choose a male and female guppy (group, multiple fish) as your starting point.
    2. Take a clear photo of both (group) and post for it for all to see.
    3. Set an objective that you would like to reach after a year like breeding a pink guppy.
    4. You may introduce a new guppy to your breeding program (outcross) at any time but one of the fish must be related to the original pair. Meaning you can only outcross to the original fish or any of its offspring.
    5. You have up to 3 entries.
    6. You may join at any time but the deadline will remain the same for all.
    7. Keep the thread updated frequently with photos of your progress, at least each generation.
    8. Should all your fish die you can enter again.
    9. You may enter if your a total noob or professional breeder.
    10. Any awards will subject to public voting and comments by a professional guppy breeder if we can find one.

I will also enter although my project started already about 2 months ago. Will not consider myself up for the prizes but will only do it for fun and to log progres on my breeding.

I'm in. I have 3 males and 6 females and have no idea what I'm doing and how they will turn out. Does it have to be 1 male and female or can I use these 9 fish and see what they produce? I don't know what my goal is as I've never crossed colors before, so don't know what will come out in the end. One is looking pregnant already as its starting to go black at the poophol. I will fill in the entry in December. Any tips are appreciated, like playing them Barry White and roses and stuff. Prizes, nah I'm in it to have fun and fish are my favorite animals.

AND I got to pet this little guy yesterday...

It's all for the love and learning process.

Since this is a challenge and not a competition there is no real prizes, will issue a Designerguppy sertificate.

My breeding tanks are all cycled now and my guppies are settled in and most are carrying already. Counting the days to begin the challenge haha, going to go for solid blue and orange and orange white blue mix. Can't wait......
