In my 100l I do nothing and the weeds, I mean plants grow beserk and no algae!

My 300l is another kettle of fish. But I love my plants so I just need to find the right balance

Bit of a cut and rescape during the week, was going to tear this down to make space for 4ft-clear, but the growth seem to be talking licking in, so I might leave it for a while longer.

D-tank was also a donor for the 4ft-clear planting ...

    Oh the shame !!!

Victim of its own success ... after the submerged T8 died the 2x11 watt tube just did not work so the tank is now a cut and dump tank..

I is also waiting for the perfect LED project .. nice depth for playing with some lenses.

What depth do you mean when you say perfect depth for playing with some lenses?

47 cm from what I assume will be the lens to the substrate ..

Most of my future LED tanks are between 43-50cm deep, since I will not be running pendants they will be near the water surface with what I am assuming to be a focused lens.

Just keep in mind that once the light enters the water from the air it will bend the light inwards, effectively giving you a narrower spread angle.

The optics of lights shining into the tank is actually quite interesting.

if you want to use those kind of led's i would look at designing the build similar to a kessil, I would not add secondary lenses and instead use the primary lenses that comes built into the leds especially if its less than 600mm depth

ah makes sense ... thanks for the input. The project is looking for a local supplier so if you have any pointer that will be great.

Man - long term verdict on the macro aqua energy substrate - turns to mud, must have been what the ADA guys has in v1 of that soil many moons ago. Did some rock hunting in the garden this morning - cleared out the stuff in the tank and did several in tank substrate rinses. Then added the rocks - first time I am using the two corners with some hard scape items - BTW seeing alot of rock work in planted tanks as of late so maybe in SA this will be more of the trend - that we get local hard scape in our tanks.

It needs to clear up a bit but the combination of diggers and this substrate not a good think.

I really do need to look the LED stuff esp if I want to stop using this tank as a cuttings dumping ground.
