It really looks like this is what I'm going to have to do, I'm not so keen on it though, I seem to suffer an allergy to these little guys, or maybe it's just their water?

I'll PM you, I need to ask a few more questions...

aaaahhhh fiddled with it again i've decided i'm a compulsive fiddler lol. put some black beach pebbles in one corner which i really like spread the plants out abit more, upped the excel and ferts by a smidge and now to await results. the waiting is killer and i really have to restrain myself now. to be fair i really like the new look its cleaner more open. btw does anyone know if threadfins rainbows are compatible with bettas? i thought a small school would look nice in the mid area. pity i cant get my grubby paws on some galaxy rasboras. the tank looks abit empty now that all the moss is gone, and apsolem is abit lost in all the space i think look wise.

    ANOTHER STUPID QUESTION... SIGH!

What is the recommended dosage of both Flourish and Excel into a tank? At the moment I dose 3ml Flourish per week into my 2ft tanks and 5ml Flourish per week into my 3ft tank. As for the Excel, so far I'm using about 3ml per 2ft and 5ml into my 3ft. Is there a way that I can better work this out or could someone give me advice on how to do this? I'm also only dosing 1ml of the Flourish into my 1.5ft and not putting in the Excel as I was advised that the Java moss doesn't seem to like it all that much...

    Advice please...
    TIA Kim

Hmmm... You really should be following the instructions on the bottle. I will have a look when I get home and try help where I can.

@Sean J, Thanks I would really appreciate that. I've read that some of the members up the dosages to double of what was recommended for the Flourish, hence the 3ml and 5ml and I've seen some good growth without any side effects to my fish. I really just wonder if this is ok or if I need to adjust it at all. As for the Excel, it's a new product for me to use, so I'm trying it out tentatively...

    @Skye01

Ok, so the directions for Excel are as follows: On initial use or after a major (> 40%) water change, use 1 capful (5 mL) for every 40 L (10 gallons*). Thereafter use 1 capful for every 200 L (50 gallons*) daily or every other day.

Which means, if you have a 90L tank (3ft) When you do a big water change of 40% - which is roughly 35 - 40L of water, you add 5mls of FLOURISH EXCEL. On a 2ft tank, which is around 40 liters, you would add a 3rd of a cap full of EXCEL.

Now, daily, OR every other day, you add a capfull for every 200L... So on a 3ft tank, you would add just less than half a capfull. On a 2ft, you would add about 1ml...

    Make sense?

    Now for the Flourish:
Use 1 capful (5 mL) for each 250 L (60 gallons*) once or twice a week. For smaller doses, please note that each cap thread is approximately 1 mL.

So now on your 90L (3ft) tank, you would add just less than one capfull MAXIMUM per week. An easy way to do this, is to take some RO water and dissolve the FLOURISH into a container. If you only need 8ml of Flourish per week, then add 8ml to 92ml of RO water. Then divide by 5. Add 20ml of the solution to your tank 5 times per week. It evens out the amount of ferts you are adding and also helps maintain a little stability in your aquarium...

I'm personally not sure how accurate the dosing calculations of the flourish is, as surely plant mass would dictate how much you would use. The bigger the plant mass the more ferts you would use. But starting off with the seachem directions, and monitoring the growth of your plants for signs of deficiency will be very important.

Hectic... That was quite an informative post...

@Sean J, that makes a little more sense, thank you. My problem is that I have no idea where to lay my hands on RO water here on the ER. I'll have to do a little phoning to my lfs to see what I can come up with. We aren't all as lucky as you are...:blink1: I got some moss from @Lizid and he advised that I not use the Excel with my moss as it melts it... What is your experience with this?

My mom just came up with an idea,... What about using Distilled Water? Would that work in place of RO water?

Thanks for taking the time out to go through this with me, it really is so very helpful.:flowers: Couldn't find chocolates so it had to be flowers...

LOL! I prefer beer to chocolates and flowers!!

No worries... I know of one LFS that is in Greenstone which will supply RO... I would use RO, not Distilled. I'm not sure about distilled water, so I wouldn't use it.

I think Excel is dangerous to use with moss, but I haven't used it in agaes with any kind of moss, so I'm probably not the best person to ask. Lizid is pretty clued up with moss, so I'd trust his judgement.

@Sean J, Distilled water is steam that has turned into water droplets...

Excell should not melt your moss. I have use excell with pretty much any moss in SA with no problems. Only problem that I did have is that the moss completely went boss.

Well I kind of feel sad tonight. Took what might be the entry pics for the comp tonight if things don't go well with the move tomorrow.

I were quite surprised actually at how much this tank achieved in what would now be just a month. Would really like to see it though in 2 months from now when everything has grown in where it should.

So hold thumbs I can pull it of tomorrow.
