Cleaning sand

Yea - We gotta clean about 80Kg of riversand tommorrow - Sure wouldn,t mind about 200 volunteers

 

And you lose a fair bit of sand in the cleaning process as well. It's the more finer granules that start to stick together to give you that muddy effect

 

OK... tank is up an running.. but water is VERY milky. Obviously didn't clean enough!!!

 

Oh shame - and after all that cleaning and cleaning and cleaning and cleaning and cleaning and some more cleaning. Bummer man, but I'm sure it'll clear up within a couple of days. :blink1:

 

Anything I can put into the filtration system to aid clearing?

 

i want to change to silica sand but just the thought of emptying out the entire tank... eish

 

I promise you... it's definately work the hard work.

 

Patience and regular water changes...don't go and waste your money on product

I did a 80% water change yesterday, and put the water pack in via syphon... so as not to disturb the substrate.... looks clearer already. Maybe 2 or 3 more days and will be clear completely.

And before anyone gasps.. "80%!!!!!!!!!!!" No.. there is no fish in yet... still cyling the water!

 

Just a point to make - The silica sand in Pool Filters is generally more coarse and sharp then riversand. The riversand is smooth and has a smaller grain, better for your bottom dwellers.

 

BTW, there's nothing wrong with doing a 80% water change...even with fish in it. I've done it a few times with no problems or fatalities before. Just my personal experience
