Cascade Canister Filter Impeller Rattling

Ok, well mine is still running pretty nice, so I'm going to stick it out for now.

Have you decided on a new filter? Which brand?

 

Is is it quiet?

I think I'm going to try the Fluval... But I'll see what I can hunt down this weekend. I do know that I have to make a plan for extra filtration ASAP, I feel really bad for my fishies sake, as I don't think my filter is up to stratch...

 

I found that to be the best combination ever especially if you can mount some mechanical filtration onto that powerhead keeps the water crystal clear!

 

I bought a Eheim Classic 2217 yesterday, just installed in now, and I can say... My faith in German Engineering has yet again: been restored! Just a slight hum... quieter than my computer, priming and setting up was a breeze, water flow is amazing, Its been running a short while and things are all ready looking better...

I can see that cleaning it will be a bit more of a mission, but thats not the end of the world. and the

@larch, I'm going to do the same, I have a internal at the moment, but I'm going to get a smaller one to do just what you said.

I couldn't find a Fluval, and where I asked they all said parts are a big problem, most places also said that I was unlucky with the cascade and that my experience wasn't the norm...

To add to the "and the" The could have add a few more options to finish it off in terms of not just a rain bar... and not just the silly "bends" but oh well

 

Most of the parts are made in China And assembled in Germany ^_^ Hence I went for a AquaOne does exactly the same for cheaper and you dont pay extra just for the brand name.

Actually getting parts for it is exactly the same as for Eheim, problem is stores dont stock it so they spin you some BS story in the hope you will buy something else in their store and not leave the shop and loose your money.

Never had a problem finding parts for Fluval. BTW, just bought the G6 Fluval. Cant even hear it run.

 

Oh nice, I've been reading and dreaming about the G6, it looks awesome, I didn't even know you got it here... I was looking for the FX5 and saw the G6.

I bought it from Sams Aquarium in Cape Town.

 

With the current exchange rate which is good for importing it costs about (£349) at R10.90c for a British pound. It will set you back around R3,821, minus the markups and import duties of course. Reviews have been good so far:

But personally I wont spend that much on a canister filter when you can buy something thats flow rate is twice as much at half the price. And do you really need to connect your canister filter via USB to your PC? Personally it is overkill for me, but thats just me. And why the gloss black finish that thing will scratch so badly it even funny.

 

Eheim Classic filters are the best canister filters period. In the over 30 years I've been in the hobby, I've never had to replace a single part other than an o-ring here or there. I've had other fong kong brands over the years, none of them are still working.

I know for a fact that the pump heads are made in Germany, so if there is any truth to that, then that leaves only the plastic moldings and piping made in China.

 

Just because it is made in China does not simply mean it is interior to any other product out there.

Not anymore Eheim has been outsourcing the manufacturing and production of their canister range to China because it uses cheap labor methods. If you look on your box you will find it says: "Made in PRC" as in People's Republic of China depending on you make and model of course. The production of the EHEIM Classics and Liberty have been moved to china back in 1999 already:

Also another interesting fact I found is that Eheim bought out Ebo and that all their heaters are now manufactured in China because it is cheaper.

Yeah I was surprised just how much of things I thought were made elsewhere is made in China now. But it comes at a cost for people who work in these factories, not to mention you must just see how polluted china is now because of all these factories.

 

Interesting, mine all state: "Made in W. - Germany".

All pre '99 though.

I would not expect anything less from Eheim, unfortunately the same can't be said for other Chinese brands I've owned. Quality is just not the same.

 

That sticker that says Made in W. Germany was probably made in China.
